ADT Focus 3211 May 2006 13:14 GMT6
After taking over a Power 832 from ADT the other night, as per usual, the
next day I tried to dial in to check my settings. No matter how many times I
connect (using auto detect or otherwise), the software tells me it cannot
identify the panel.
Wireless vs wired.11 May 2006 04:55 GMT8
It it true that a wiresless system is susceptible to being tripped by
thunderstorms. I have heard of systems even being tripped by birds
flying overhead!
If this is not true, or if it all depends on the brand, what would be a
New 10 digit dialing problems11 May 2006 03:00 GMT22
Effective 17 June 2006, residents of the two area codes 613 and 819 in
Eastern Canada will be required to dial the area code before the number in
order to make any kind of local call. This has a major bearing on how alarm
panels work, since they too have to dial a 10 digit ...
Newbie questions10 May 2006 04:23 GMT27
I am thinking of installing a burglar alarm system in my home and
have a few questions after I looked at product descriptions of some
available systems online:
(1) Is it really worthwhile to order the monitoring service together

my sources, it seems that Sprint/ Nextel has acquired Velocita and
they plan to shut down the Mobitex network that some alarm industry
New DSC 1864 model09 May 2006 15:51 GMT5
I did see a post from 4/12 that people had heard of a new DSC line.
Any further details on this?  Any advanced features?
I'm looking at a new alarm and considering the DSC 864 (lowest choice right
now) and the Caddx NX-8E and the Elk-M1EZ8.
smoke detector wiring09 May 2006 15:44 GMT11
I'm getting ready to wire my smokes and I'm not clear on how to get
them all to sound when one goes off.  Here's what I'm planning; please
help me understand how to hook up the reversing relay. (Note model
numbers in parenthesis are System Sensor)
Rolling codes09 May 2006 02:58 GMT3
The battery in my remote failed, and I took it out to purchase a new one.  A
few days later, I installed the new battery, and the LED in the remote
lights, but without any response from the car's alarm system.  The other
remote works fine, so it is not the car alarm.  Any ideas?  ...
Installer code lockout after power-down on ADEMCO 50P08 May 2006 05:22 GMT15
A few years back I did a DIY install of an Ademco 50P.
In the process of adding new devices this morning I got lost in the
programing menu and cound not back out, so I powered down the panel

Nyah.07 May 2006 13:36 GMT3
Few months ago I had a rather intense debate with a certain participant
who absolutely insisted there was no way ever that the VideoInsight
server software would support 32-camera display with a 32-camera board
on a single machine, despite VI themselves saying otherwise.
Veritas R8 Problem06 May 2006 20:58 GMT2
This evening my Veritas R8 decided to emit a loud 'beeping' noise on
its external bell.  The alarm was not set and no internal alarm
sounded.  I was unable to reset the external bell.  The only way I
managed this was to trip the tamper alarm and then perform a user
Motion Detector Ademco 998IP05 May 2006 05:47 GMT7
I just got an Ademco 998IP motion detector and I need to know the color
sequence of the 4 wires. I am replacing an old one that is broken   The old
sequence was red, black, white and green from top to bottom, set vertically.
The 998IP has the wire clamps horizontal on the top left ...
Salesman Ratio05 May 2006 02:47 GMT5
Does anyone here subscribe to this theory?  I understand one of my
competitors says he has 2 salesmen for every installer he has.  They do
custom homes and pre-wire most of them.  Seems like you would end up with a
bunch of extra salesmen to me.? What ratio do you guys have?
