Rita might be going to get us. All of the cows are laying down, all facing
the north. The chickens have not come down from their roosts even though
there has been nearly 4 hours of daylight. No dragon flies this morning.
Frogs are so loud they drown out the radio in the truck. ...
Reminder to check property bounds for pot plants20 Sep 2005 19:56 GMT6
Yup, that time of year again, time to chop em down and burn the
burners.  These rotten sobs think nothing of getting honest land owners
into legal crap so the only thing to do is run a brush hog over em.
pond scum == filamentous algae20 Sep 2005 16:09 GMT5
I'm a realtively new small pond owner and have some concerns about the
accumulation of pond scum over the summer.  Since the pond was stocked with
catfish, I am wondering if the algae will interfere with their growth.  It
is also a pain to fish since it sticks to the fishing line ...
chain saw recommendation?20 Sep 2005 12:07 GMT8
I'm looking for a new chain saw and would appreciate any
recommendations/experiences.  I need something a bit above
"residential" since the trees that have come down recently
have been anything but small.  I'm thinking a 20" bar is
Mystery Sting?20 Sep 2005 03:04 GMT7
Was riding my bike.
Had just crossed over 300 feet of open grass on a game trail/walking trail of
beaten-down grass.
Turned on to a little paved service road, got about 20 feet and bzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ
Un-permited structures and statute of linitations19 Sep 2005 22:58 GMT5
My neighbor just got sited for an un-permited  porch and cabana ( over
the mobile home) that was there when she bought the place 16 years
ago. She is poor retired and the County came out last year and put a
new roof on the cabana for free. Now they have told her to tear it
Anyone ever seen a John Deere model 40 spreader?19 Sep 2005 21:33 GMT4
Anyone ever seen a John Deere model 40 manure spreader?
I just bought one at an auction and need a few parts.  I cant find any
reference to this model on the web.  The actual ID tag lists it as a
S0940 and use the word "type" instead of model.  But there is a large
submersible pump 19 Sep 2005 18:00 GMT3
I need to pump water uphill, once a week or so, to fill some tanks
(non-pressureized). I don't want to leave the pump down there, I want to
carry it down when needed.
I'd like a submersible pump. The one at
How to Bleed Hydraulic Cylinder on a Tractor19 Sep 2005 16:08 GMT2
I'm just changing a couple of cracked hoses on a tractor bucket.  What
do I do about the air in the new hoses?  This is going into a double
acting cylinder.  I would have assumed that the cylinder (being the end
of the line) would have some sort of bleeder screw, but there is none.
chickens and horses19 Sep 2005 15:31 GMT3
First let me say hello to this group.  My husband and I moved to the
country two years ago to have our "dream come true" life.  We are
squarely in the middle of reality now and I have a million questions.
We have about 1.5 acres, small by any standard, two horses, five dogs,

Has anyone out there lately, brought to mind the thought, That mankind
was brought forth on this planet by a power greater than he. In the
last few years the people of this country has been defying and
decrediting that power. Could it be that the humans here are being
Another use for dead cats19 Sep 2005 03:09 GMT13
Found this on another newsgroup and thought this place being rural and all
might have a use for 'things' just laying around the barnyard.

Fearless critters19 Sep 2005 02:26 GMT53
I grew up in California hills, and have returned to them to give my young kids a taste of
"rougher" living. Something that hadn't occurred to me before was that the local fauna, which
includes cougars, bobcats, & coyotes, not only have no fear of men (people, that is), they also
