timing herbicide applications31 Jul 2005 22:44 GMT10
I have read that it is best to apply herbicide applications in the
early morning on a sunny day to give it time to absorb well into the
plant.  I just wonder if that is true.  Yesterday around 4:00 in the
afternoon I went out and sprayed Roundup on a bunch of unwanted plants
Feed outdoor/barn cat, but not raccoons?31 Jul 2005 22:22 GMT12
Although I'll never allow a cat in my house (Google "crystallized cat
urine behind baseboards" and "disgusting previous owner"), I'm tempted
to install an outdoor cat to patrol the lawn and garden for mole
control and bird repelling.
How to deal with this ?31 Jul 2005 21:16 GMT4
How to deal with this ?
My aunt ( a very old person)  has a house in California...
She has had the home over 18 years now.
There are 2 trees whose roots are lifting the concrete pretty high.
deer hunting income on the farm31 Jul 2005 01:12 GMT1
Farm prices are being driven up, partly by people of money wanting to
buy a place to hunt deer and turkey.  "Base Camp" outfitters said the
average they pay around here is about $13/acre.  I guess that is for
all kinds of hunting at any time.  My uncle's farm appraisal said
Daylight saving time and livestock30 Jul 2005 12:05 GMT62
CNN reports Congress has passed a bill to extend daylight saving time
(http://tinyurl.com/9ef6g).  The story contains a paragraph (sentence,
really) that reads:  "According to some senators, farmers complained
that a two-month extension could adversely affect livestock, and
African official offers Bill 40 goats, 20 cows for Chelsea Clinton30 Jul 2005 03:54 GMT14
I would have taken the offer, myself. The African bloodline would have
improved the breed, too.-Jitney

from Iraq30 Jul 2005 00:28 GMT2
Some of you might enjoy reading this interview with Michael Yon, a
blogger in Iraq.  If you also follow up on the links in the article, it
will take you to an article written by him last week on a weapons cache
find - pretty dramatic stuff.
Cabin Burglary and Vandalism?29 Jul 2005 00:52 GMT9
How common is it for cabins to be vandalized or burglarized out in the
most rural areas?   Have any of you returned to your rural property
only to find some trigger happy nut decided to use your cabin as a
backstop?  Can I expect cords of firewood to go missing?  How about
Left-leaning IndyStar?28 Jul 2005 22:40 GMT12
Since the Indianapolis Star was suggested in this ng as an alternative to
the "liberal press", I took a look at its website.  It appears that most
(if not all) the national and world news is from the Associated Press
wire, which is as mass, mainstream media as one can get.
Bad well water sample?28 Jul 2005 19:20 GMT4
The house we purchased 1-1/2 years ago has two wells.  The plumbing is
setup such that the "main" well can provide water for all household
usages including the basement or the "shallow" well (which turns out to
be a drilled well in an old shallow well) can be used to provide water
Sanity check, please. Low energy-demand "lift pump" for water?28 Jul 2005 17:35 GMT68
Here's my situation:
I live on a piece of property that's more "up and down" than flat. When
you get right down to it, I'm basically hanging off the side of a
mountain. I want a small vegetable garden next year, so I'm starting my
What sort of questions belong here ??28 Jul 2005 06:39 GMT30

answers about living in the country.  I suspect that was
the original purpose of it...
Cleaning up a field28 Jul 2005 05:53 GMT6
I've got a strip of land that I want to clean up.  It was used as a
staging area during logging and is littered with branches, etc.  Are
there any 3 point attachments that are useful in "raking" the land.  It
will eventually be plowed but there is too much debris currently.  I've ...
