Telephone etc. to out building21 Jun 2005 23:32 GMT15
My shop is 200 feet away from my house.  I'd like telephone and ethernet
connections back to the house.  The obvious solution for me is to string a
twisted pair for the phone and RG-58 for 10base-2 ethernet through the

Name that bug!21 Jun 2005 17:52 GMT5
I'm idly wondering about a pest I've got in some trees I just
became aware of yesterday and thought it might be interesting
to see what people here may think it is.
The bugs are confined to two very tall pine trees
Survival: Beer 'n Nachos20 Jun 2005 03:36 GMT2
Another step toward living a civilized existence without resorting to
civilization.
I decided I wanted nachos and beer for lunch.  I had the beer and chips,
but no cheese sauce.  No cream of cheddar soup to *make* cheese sauce.
True Moose Story20 Jun 2005 03:02 GMT1
Many years ago when I was up at a lodge in Northern MN I asked the Inn
Keeper about a huge moose head that was over the fireplace. He said,
"Well, 8 years ago I was out  fishin'  for Bass and heard this
splashing sound behind me. I turned an saw a moose heading straight
suggestion for homestead lcoation(s)?19 Jun 2005 09:44 GMT11
I am curious as to where the group would suggest buying land in order
to live a self sufficient life style? Some of the criteria that I
would go by are:

Painting Rusty Steel Roof19 Jun 2005 04:35 GMT5
I have a shed with a thick galvinized (I believe that is what it is)
roof. The building is about 30 feet long and 20 wide and the pitch is
moderately steep. The roof was put on in 1952 and does not leak much
except for about three places with holes (probably bullet holes from

Hello all...
I have a problem with my shallow well this spring.  I can get water

Poison Oak... AUGH!!!!!! HELP!!!!18 Jun 2005 03:53 GMT17
OK, boys and girls... Time to turn to the group for maybe some help.
Been doing some clearing for a neighbor - fairly serious
"slash-and-burn" clear-cutting to open up space for a new pad he wants
to put a shop on - Being Northern California, the area is, of course,
Snakes and mice17 Jun 2005 03:23 GMT9
I moved into a house in a rural area and found both mice and snakes
living under the house in a crawl space that's about three cinder
blocks high.  It goes without saying that I'm not about to go under
there. Besides tossing packets of D-Con in there, does anybody have a

Moved in yesterday, late evening. With any luck they are just passing
through.

One of my ponds has a little sand beach, which is going back to nature.
So far, mostly buttonweed and a couple of seedlings - oak - and a little
gulley right down the center of the slope.
Have searched the web a bit and am not finding anything describing how
