google maps in rural areas11 Feb 2005 21:47 GMT11
Google has a new maps service at http://maps.google.com.  I played with
it, and while it has a great user interface and features, its data is
screamingly wrong in the rural area where I live.  All the online map
services have errors in my area, but google's is much worse.

Ten-year-old Husky with a lot of hours on it....
Last couple of times I used it it has acted fairly squirrely.
Sometimes (NOT all the time), when I am pushing it pretty hard, it
Getting a rural numeric address?10 Feb 2005 03:04 GMT35
When you're moving onto undeveloped land (in a rural area, paved
road, rural route, NON-subdivision, non HOA), how do you go about
getting a numeric street address?  Can I just select one in
sequence based on neighbors and plats, and respecting even/odd
An easy way to make money!09 Feb 2005 19:41 GMT2
Greetings: I am a retired attorney. A few years ago a man came to me
with a letter. He asked me to verify the fact that this was legal to
do. I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I first read
the letter my client brought me, I thought it was some off-the-wall
mildewed boots09 Feb 2005 04:22 GMT17
My son took a two month wilderness sojourn. Was a wonderful experience
for him. But his sleeping bag and clothes suffered greatly (PHEW!!).
Managed to get the smell out of the clothes and bag, but the boot
leather on the outside of the boots has a mildew smell. He was in a lot
US weather07 Feb 2005 17:29 GMT8
I've been watching the most appalling things on the news about the cold
weather in the US.
How do thos eof you who live in really cold places put up with such cold and
the inconvenience of it all?
Jan?  AKFB07 Feb 2005 10:07 GMT9
Jan,
Where does the AKFB come down on CAFOs?  Or is it an issue there? I'm
not a FB member, and all I know is what I read and hear locally. Our
county and state (Iowa) leadership seems to be lockstep with the

Stalag 13 deer fence plans?05 Feb 2005 03:22 GMT19
I'm putting in a garden soon and will need to fence out the deer.
Google turns up a lot of clever tilted/electric/psychic fences, but
what I want is the specs for a brute force post and wire mesh
keep-the-heck-away-from-my-veggies fence. How to make gates would be a

Do those propane 'flame thrower' torches melt snow well?04 Feb 2005 18:07 GMT9
Kinda like a nozzle on the end of a 3 foot pole, they attach to a
propane tank and you can walk around with them and melt snow. How well
do they work? Its just I have a gravel driveway and its hard to shovel
the stuff.
Burma Shave03 Feb 2005 17:48 GMT24
Those of us who remember Burma Shave Highway signs are a dwingling
group.  If "Burma Shave" is  entered into the "recreation" newsgroup,
"rec.antiques.marketplace," other than this posting there will be only
14 hits and the most recent goes back to 1999.  What a shame that
Land wanted from private seller02 Feb 2005 22:25 GMT26
If you are a private seller in the western state of the USA and have a
small piece of land to sell, please post or e-mail me.
If it has nothing on it, fine. If it has something on it as a house,
barn or shack, fine too.
