Ants!31 Jul 2004 22:05 GMT5
Folks,
I have a little rural acreage up in the US West Coast Cascades, and have
gradually been developing the land.    After building a shed, digging a
well, etc, I've progressed to building a house.

Working Chickens30 Jul 2004 13:50 GMT14
Yesterday I took in the fourth batch of chickens for processing.  That makes
1400 chickens that have gone into the freezer this year.  1000 to go.
I started with batches of 300, I'm up to 500 at a time.  I would like to get
to batches of 1000 by next year and hopefully do less ...
12 VDC Barge Generator?29 Jul 2004 19:54 GMT6
A brother of a neighbor at our cabin last weekend pointed out that they make
12 VDC generators for barges, which generate about 1 kW. I can't find any by
doing web searches, all I find are diesel units for barge mounting.
He said the thing is hung over the side of the barge, which ...
Water Well Drilling Accidents or near misses29 Jul 2004 15:58 GMT13
I am in litigation support. I have a project that I hope someone or
everyone on this list might be able to help me since you have
apparently been involved with water well drilling equipment or
involved in the industry. I am interested in any incident at anytime
Seeking water and Oaks ?29 Jul 2004 04:28 GMT3
I am looking for a new location on my property to drill another well for
irrigation purposes, and I wondered if there is any correlation between stands
or lines of Oak trees (Live Oaks and Black Oaks) and water beneath them. Anyone
have any knowledge (I don't need advice to go and ...
Homemade, effective hornet/yellowjacket trap29 Jul 2004 01:53 GMT2
I'm starting a new thread since the last one about yellowjackets has
degenerated into regionalism and "adequacy" name-calling.
The following work very well and don't use chemicals (unless you want
to season the bait with attractant).
#13 Griswold cast iron skillet with heat ring & BLOCK logo28 Jul 2004 19:29 GMT17
For sale:  #13 Griswold cast iron skillet with heat ring & BLOCK logo.
Good condition, considering it was used almost daily for 40+ years.
A few tiny scratches on the inside, and a few pits on the
outside/bottom, but really only visible if you put your face right
Problems with burglary when away? Help!28 Jul 2004 00:09 GMT39
Has anyone had problems with burglary in rural homes/ranches/farms when you
are away. These are areas where you can't see another house due to many
acres of land between, hills and large trees (and the people in neighboring
homes can't see your house.)

Slaughtering my own lamb?27 Jul 2004 18:29 GMT12
I want to save money by slaughtering my own lamb. But how do I dispose of
the innards?
Someone told me burying them was illegal?
I guess the butcher takes these things to a rendering plant. Do they take
Dog eating rabbits27 Jul 2004 01:51 GMT12
My dog has decided that he is not just a pretty face and has started to earn
his keep by catching vermin.  He started on mice and now is on to rabbits.
The victims that I have been able to examine so far are fat and healthy (and
apparently tasty) to my inexpert eye.  We are both ...
natural cleaning supplies26 Jul 2004 19:00 GMT5
I'm just curious if anyone has tried natural cleaning products instead
of the normal grocery store brands.  It seems like a healthier
alternative, but I'm not sure how well they would work.
Here is an example of what I am referring to.  Let me know what you
