radiant energy storage-water vs. soil08 Feb 2004 02:50 GMT2
One of my next projects is to build a small greenhouse/giant coldframe
on the cement pad that used to be a little used dog kennel.  The pad
runs E-W, and has a sheetmetal siding on the North side only; this is
the only portion framed right now.  oh....the site is about 6x16', and
woodstove dilemmas08 Feb 2004 01:08 GMT12
yup, more woodstove questions....
It appears I will not be able to find someone around here to install
this woodstove of mine, so I am venturing into this project myself.
Can I set the woodstove on gravel...directly?  Maybe I should use the

Small Town Murder Update06 Feb 2004 21:56 GMT49
Well, they arrested a couple guys for that double murder.  The rumor mill
failed miserably.  We were all dead wrong on who it was.  Supposedly these
guys confessed, so I guess they got the right ones.
Rumors were fueled by where search warrants were served, who got arrested
Post Office screw up06 Feb 2004 16:42 GMT9
My 300 chicks came yesterday.  The PO called and told me they were stuck in
Champaign (hour and a half away).  They said I could wait for this morning
or the supervisor from Champaign would meet me with them on the way home
from work.

Buying fertilised eggs for hatching?04 Feb 2004 14:36 GMT14
I own two hens (no cock) and they are pretty good about laying eggs. I
am thinking, for the spring season, to buy a few fertilised eggs and
somehow trick the hens into sitting on them and then raising the
little chicks. I kind of have a choice of either going the broiler
Tiger in Kansas- still loose?04 Feb 2004 12:26 GMT14
Someone mentioned the '3-S rule' in another thread & I wasn't familiar
with it so I googled it--  'Shoot, shovel, shut-up' are the 3 Ss --
but the page I found it on was real interesting.

thawing well pipe04 Feb 2004 11:48 GMT5
Looking for ideas on how to thaw a frozen inlet pipe from the well.  Plastic
pipe - location of freeze plug is not known.
I assume the best or only solution is to pump hot water into it with a
smaller tube stuck inside it.  Would love to hear from anybody who has

I am reading How to Make your Small farm Profitable, and one example
they cite describes someone grossing $650k on a quarter acre of land,
growing specialty, or gourmet, vegetables.
First....what would these be, these specialty veggies?
Heater Cable03 Feb 2004 23:26 GMT4
I'm trying to make a freeze-proof chicken watering system for my brooders.
I figure I can put a tank or barrel on a stand, with a heater in it.  Then,
I have to run a line to the brooder.  Once the line goes into the brooder,
freezing is not a problem (it's quite warm in there).  I ...
