Time to get a generator10 Feb 2004 22:35 GMT55
I go out every night to check my horses (who are going to foal any day) and
pull my chicken feeders from the chicks.  Limiting feed is supposed to help
with the flip problem in broilers.
I went out tonight to find everything dark, chicks all huddled up, power

I have learned so much from this group thanks..
I have to build a 200ft  road to Min of Transport requirements
which needs 6" of crush on the hard gravel bed that I have.
Easy road to put in due to it being flat and straight. I was told
How to plant corn10 Feb 2004 14:17 GMT13
I wanted to plant 2 acres of corn and an acre of sunflowers on my
property for wildlife this spring. I have a Ford 3000 tractor. I plan on
buying a tiller but I have no idea what device I need to plant the seeds. I
planned on just tilling the land and then using whatever ...
What happened to the group?10 Feb 2004 12:49 GMT99
My server just finally picked up this group again, and what happened?
It used to be full of discussions about rural life - now all this political,
tree hugging drivel......
Is there anybody out there?
Wild Birds in the Barn10 Feb 2004 09:49 GMT38
Ok, I do my part in feeding the wildlife through winter, albeit
unintentionally, but this is getting ridiculous.
I went in the chicken barn and there was an entire flock of wild birds in
there, probably at least 100.  They had wiped out everyone's feed and all my
building wooden barn floor10 Feb 2004 02:35 GMT3
I want to build a barn floor, at least in one corner of my polebarn.
Couple of questions come to mind...
Should I put down contractors plastic, or landscaping plastic before I
set down any 4x4s or 2x4s?  The current flooring is gravel, over which
Fun Facts- LA causes pollution in Utah09 Feb 2004 22:33 GMT10
An article in the LA Times on Thursday, Jan 29 says that Los Angeles's
single largest supplier of electricity is a coal fired power plant over on the
Utah/Arizona border (400 miles away) where it pollutes the local area including
the national parks in that area such as Zion, ...

and coyotes and other critters.
Puppy Chow09 Feb 2004 12:50 GMT36
We had another litter of pups in November.
One of them wandered over to the neighbor's fence.  Their big dog grabbed
him by the head and ran off with him, giving him a few good shakes (there
was a witness).  My husband saw him a little later in their pasture.  He was
Elderly farm cats and dogs09 Feb 2004 12:46 GMT6
WIth several of our livestock guard dogs and barn cats getting older,
I've been wondering what to do as they ease into the senior years.
Every winter I wonder if I am doing enough for their comfort. The cats
have loads of piled hay in the barn to curl into and the dogs have
alternate shop heat sources incl. solar08 Feb 2004 14:57 GMT10
So if I wuss out installing this woodstove myself, and since the
weather is not conducive to working on any roofs right now, what are
my other options for heat in my shop/polebarn?
Solar....if I put three 2x3 windows on the South wall, I can get some
filtering clay out of well water08 Feb 2004 12:27 GMT7
The water in my area has fine clay particles which are difficult to
filter.  I had a holding tank and a recirculating ozone system system
added to the well to remove iron and manganese, but it does not help
with the high degree of turbidity from the clay. Does anyone know any
