Stihl's statement confuses me?24 Dec 2003 18:23 GMT2
I get Stihl's e-mail newsletter. The latest edition arrived today.  In
it they address winter storage of saws, etc. I was bored, so I read
it.  Saw a statement that surprised me.  Does anyone know why they
say:
How many people are really afraid?24 Dec 2003 14:46 GMT40
My 15 year old son suggested I watch the movie "Bowling for Columbine".
He's a thinker, my son.  He said that the movie had a profound impact on him
and he wanted me to watch it, so I did.
It was thought provoking.
Say NO NO NO to Wal-Mart!!!24 Dec 2003 01:27 GMT702
Say NO NO NO to Wal-Mart!!!
Walmart has gotten too big and it uses its power to exert over us. No
one can blame Wal-Mart for being abusive afterall, it's us, the
consumers, who gave the power to them! We are irresponsible and greedy

siberian pea22 Dec 2003 18:54 GMT5
getting in the garden planning mode....Anyone grown siberian pea?
Anyone actually eaten the beans/pods/flowers?  Recipes?
If picked early enough, can it pass for a shell pea or snap pea?  Or
is it more like a black-eyed pea?
hardwood syrup Q22 Dec 2003 18:34 GMT4
It is said that if it was easy, somebody would already be doing it.......
Anyone made Walnut or Hickory syrups?  Bitter?  Need to be cut with corn syrup?
I suppose the trees would be tapped similarly to maples?
Another one of those "finds" I come up with poking around on the web!
Weather stations22 Dec 2003 18:11 GMT16
My husband's birthday is right after Christmas.  He is the most impossible
person to shop for.  He has everything.  He is always appreciative of gifts,
but then he'll never use/wear them.
I was thinking of getting him one of those weather station things, but I
Pigs and Chickens21 Dec 2003 19:40 GMT2
My husband is telling me the pigs have to go in the basement (NOT!).  It's a
big basement with lots of hidey-holes.  What if a possum or something is
down there?  What if it eats my babies???  No way.  They are staying in the
kitchen for now.
ventilating pole barn21 Dec 2003 19:35 GMT14
ok, now I am wondering if my pole barn is adequately ventilated...?
The soffits, running East to West, are open, being covered with
expanded metal mesh.  There is some air movement through the
guillotine dogdoor fittings.  The gable appears to be closed.

bark beetle-resistant Christmas trees ???20 Dec 2003 00:02 GMT2
In a mountain area subject to death of pine trees by drought and pine
bark beetle infestations, my family has a Choose-and-Cut Christmas Tree
farm.  It provides some retirement income -- enough to pay the property
taxes, and maybe the utilities -- definitely not enough to make a ...
Bye Bye to UPS for us Rurals  ;o(19 Dec 2003 18:14 GMT53
I had been awaiting a large heavy shipment via UPS.. Until this week, I had
routinely been recieving UPS delivers several times a month..
Today, when I went to my rural mail box, about 1/8th mile away, on the
county road, I found a parcel pickup notice for the local rural post ...
