Estate Sale30 Nov 2003 23:04 GMT2
I've never been to a sale in good weather.  Today was no exception.  It was
freezing, wind was blowing..at least there was no precipitation.
I stood, sat, walked around for eight hours waiting for my chosen items to
come up.  I feel like I've been hit by a truck.  I can work in that ...
T Posts & Clips30 Nov 2003 15:24 GMT19
Anyone got a good way to clip fencing on a T-post so that the
fence will not be able to slide or be pushed down ?
My male llamas have been pushing on the top of the fence and it
slides down the T-posts.  I used the clips that came with the posts.
Small Town Deaths29 Nov 2003 15:28 GMT26
Dying is a small town is different.  Well, I don't really know, since I
haven't died yet, but there is a definite status thing that goes on when
someone dies.
Everyone reads the obituaries.  They have to know if they should show up at
Turkey Sales29 Nov 2003 07:00 GMT38
I took my turkeys in today to get them slaughtered.  I take them to an Amish
place that has a federal inspector.  I've found people act like you are
trying to poison them until they hear "federal inspector".  I'm also
"licensed and insured" which means my freezer has been looked at ...
dead deer at pond28 Nov 2003 23:50 GMT9
A dead doe is down by my pond, the apparent casualty of colliding with
a moving vehicle.  Could've been shot, can't tell anymore.
Yesterday, since the deer was partially submerged, I shoved it further
into the pond.  The wind was carrying it toward another shoreline
Liberalism Defined (esp. for Rich Wellner)28 Nov 2003 17:41 GMT39
I read this editorial when it first appeared in The
Economist back in 1996; seems hard to believe it was
that long ago.

Have a decent collection of black walnuts now, and am wondering how
the commercial endeavors crack these buggers and separate the meat
from the shells?  Keebler elves??? {{;-q  I'm thinking of buying a
vise, crack them with this.

stone Ten Commandments monument from the state Supreme
The Founders Myth27 Nov 2003 19:57 GMT70
There is an excellent article in the September 2003
issue of The Atlantic Monthly, "Founders Chic", in
which the author shows that the iconic reverence for
"The Founders" is a relatively new phenomenon.

Family Thanksgiving recipes26 Nov 2003 19:42 GMT16
Every Thanksgiving I try to make a new dish for Thanksgiving. I try
my best to find a great recipe for a dish that makes people ask for it for
years to come. Is there something great that you make that you could share?
Here's a GREAT pumpkin pie recipe that I picked up 2-3 ...

small acreage asparagus Qs26 Nov 2003 04:19 GMT1
Asparagus was mentioned to me today, for my tiny three acre plot.
Aside from it being a three year crop, any other thoughts on planting
asparagus for a commercial crop?
And some turkeys on the side.......!!
How do hydraulic trailer brakes work?26 Nov 2003 03:49 GMT3
My buddy bought an old beat up boat traler, pretty big one. It has
hydraulic brakes, and we are trying to figure out how to work them
before one of us gets kilt. The brake lines go from the wheels to a
big dingus behind the coupler. It's a black metal box with a lever
Lincoln Welder/Generator... Opinions?26 Nov 2003 03:31 GMT2
Thinking about getting a Lincoln Ranger 8 for a dual purpose: as my
backup generator for my off-grid house and also as a tool in my kit
(I'm a millwright, so a welding machine's always handy).
Now, the Ranger 8 is an LPG unit as a bonus, as I use propane for my
