Some Hesperia info for you:
My Mom just called me. They live in Spring Valley Lake. Oak Hills east
of the freeway is being evacuated now (8:00 AM pacific).

River Rocks31 Oct 2003 16:11 GMT5
Hello all!  My beloved slave driver and I are finally finishing up a
huge pond project and will soon be needing LOTS of rocks.  We prefer
the larger river rocks mainly because they look more natural and also
since they tend to be more rounded, they aren't as likely to poke a

Not sure if this is the *best* place to post this or not, if not perhaps
someone could point me in the right direction.
I have a 10 yr old home, 2 stories with full basement, NG forced air
furnace. I've had it up to *here* the last couple of years with rising

Whos got 'em and who don't?
I was asked by my wife to check the seat on her jeep. While standing
there, they came up out of the grass, as my attention was on the slider
mechanism. I had half a dozen bites on my feet before I knew I was in

Need advice on getting rid of yellow jackets31 Oct 2003 05:55 GMT18
Usually I leave them alone, but this bunch built a nest close to the
house and in the rose bushes, now the rose bushes are getting ignored
and I have to constantly worry about my youngest who seems drawn to
the nest.
Well pressure switch wiring?31 Oct 2003 05:39 GMT16
Okay, another of my "unique" questions ...
I had an above-ground PVC water system on our land until a few weeks
ago, with a pressure switch in place on the pressure tank that had been
connected by a professional electrician.  To actually live out there, I

Wrong impressions31 Oct 2003 05:37 GMT173
I think this is pretty interesting, and quite frightening as
well.  We may already be among the least informed people on
earth, and I fear we're quickly becoming the most jingoistic.
I apologize in advance to those who feel topics such as this
Crimping Aluminum Poles31 Oct 2003 00:32 GMT4
I have 4 aluminum poles about 1" in diameter.  I need to crimp one end
of each pole so it will fit into another pole.  Any ideas on the best
way to do that?  Poles are regular tent type poles and are not to
thick.
Fire Anxiety30 Oct 2003 18:26 GMT6
Wild fires just don't exist out here.  The worse thing that happens is
someone burns a fence row and it takes out more than they planned, including
posts.
Having grown up in SoCal, I know what fire season is all about, but what I'm

Have you thought of approaching a newspaper for a column?
I really like your style of writting, and how you seem to paint a picture of
life on the farm, by describing, in intimate detail, the challenges of
operating a farm and the opportunites you find to overcome a situation.
Shingle repair question30 Oct 2003 17:58 GMT2
Had the roofers out two weeks ago and they put on a new three-tab roof
with asphalt shingles.
Had the "antenna" guy over last week and he put up a new antenna.
While antenna guy was on the roof, he mentioned that a shingle had a
Coyote Trouble!30 Oct 2003 11:47 GMT28
I'd appreciate good tips from folks who have trapped coyotes.
Our situation is that of a rural residential neighborhood with
a heavily forested 2+ acres.  We have noticed coyotes lurking
about in daytime at least twice during the past three years.
