run cable in interior wall/drill fireblock06 Jul 2008 02:32 GMT12
I need to drill a 5/8" or 3/4" hole in a fireblock in an interior 2x4
finished wall in order to run a cable. I have reasonably good access
from above the wall in the attic. I could have access from below the
fireblock but I don't want to cut the holein the sheetrock for the box
Oddball garden hose problem06 Jul 2008 00:28 GMT13
I have a garden hose that was badly leaking, right in the middle of
the hose.  I cut the hose and installed one of those cheap plastic
yellow splicers.  That was pretty much a waste of two dollars, because
those plastic clamps with two screws just dont tighten well enough.

I have a light fixture that I would like to dim up to full brightness at a
specific time, then dim down at another time. I'd like the switch from off
to on to take between 30 minutes and an hour.
Does anyone know if a 1 gang box switch like this exists? Any idea how I

A/C advise05 Jul 2008 15:38 GMT15
I had a new carrier A/C 2.5 ton installed last Oct 07 after the
cooling season.  The installer didnot add any refrigerant other than
what was pre charged in the condenser.  He installed about 30 feet of
line and new evap coil (neither was pre-charged).  Turned system on

Getting Rid of Carpenter Bees05 Jul 2008 12:09 GMT9
I occasionally see carpenter bees around my deck and swingset.
They've made a couple of holes but nothing outrageous.
Someone told me that if I paint the wood, the bees won't want to
attack the painted surfaces.

Adding a Phone line (follow up ?)05 Jul 2008 02:45 GMT7
I'm running another phone line to my living room. The gang connection
for the house is in the basement. I'll run it from there to the garage
and then up to the LR.
I may as well put a phone outlet in the garage while I'm at it. Question
Off Topic: Sign this petition if you're sick of high gas prices     (Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less)05 Jul 2008 00:51 GMT41
I'm sure many of you travel a lot for your home repairs, and that
means paying through the nose for gas. Former speaker Newt Gingrich
has a petition going on called "Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less." His
goal is 3 million votes and he has 1.2 million so far. Don't know

insulation anchor04 Jul 2008 23:05 GMT2
Where can I find insulation anchors ?  I went to HomeDepot, but no one
knew what I was talking about.  I have seen simple anchors that adhere
to the wall and have a post to stick insulation on with a back to
slide over the post holding the insulation in place.
