Rope caulk?07 Jul 2008 14:05 GMT21
I have a patio that comes right up to the house.  Between the
house and the patio is grey rubbery caulk.  This caulk is missing
or messed up in some areas and I'd like to replace it.  If you know
what I'm talking about, is this the product I need to buy?

Fire safety & soffit vents06 Jul 2008 18:04 GMT11
Following up on some recent threads here that had to do with house
ventilation, particularly the installation of attic vents, I just read
an article in one of my favorite papers (The /Berkeley Daily Planet/*)
by one of my favorite columnists, their resident home inspector, Matt
Whirlpool Washing Machine problem06 Jul 2008 17:40 GMT6
My Whirlpool LA6300XPW4 washer turned itself on the other night (scared the
h. out of me) and started filling the tub.  I found that pulling the control
in or out doesn't stop it running.  If I try to manually advance the cycle
to make it drain, it blows the breaker.  I've had to ...
USA Plumbing code: Maximum distance from a dry vent?06 Jul 2008 17:01 GMT3
I have a dry vent in a basement.  Is it true that no revent is needed
if the appliance is within 8 feet of the vent?   I have a (28 gallon
capacity) sink with a 1.5" PVC drain that I thought would need a PVC
revent, but since this sink is less than 6 feet from the main (dry)
Need More Oil Refineries?06 Jul 2008 15:59 GMT13
We're often told a lack of refining capacity in the United States is
contributing to the high cost of gasoline in that country.  If that
were truly the case, one might rightfully ask why the U.S. exports 1.6
million barrels of finished petroleum products each day. (*)
DTV converters dont work06 Jul 2008 15:20 GMT30
I finally got one of them DTV converters.  I plugged it into the
outlet and turned it on.  Nothing happened at all.  I just get the
same channels I had before.  I took it back to the store and got
another one.  Same problem, nothing happens.  I already know what I am
Shallow electrical box06 Jul 2008 14:09 GMT15
Hi, after my electrician wired my place there is one location I need to get
creative about.
It is a square metal box on the inside of a concrete block wall.  This box
is the 3/4" deep shallow box with a normal mud ring.  There is a 3/8"

Granite over metal fireplace...adhesive?06 Jul 2008 06:55 GMT7
I have a metal zero clearance fireplace, surrounded by drywall.  I had
granite cut to cover the metal and about three inches over the drywall
(all the metal will be covered except for the lower vent).  What
technique and adhesive should I use?  Modified thinset, silicone
Kind of off topic   Junk mail06 Jul 2008 06:47 GMT19
My sister and her two kids lived with me at one time.  I still get her
mail.
I save a mound of it and take it with me when I visit her.  Most of
the mail is from catalogs, but since she is a junk gift addict, she
MY Whirlpool Washing Machine problem06 Jul 2008 06:19 GMT2
I have a Whirlpool machine, 29 years old, so it's all electro-
mechanical.
For the first time ever, I think, I used the gentle cycle a couple
days ago.  Now it won't agitate or drain, in any of the three cycles,

July 4th Homeowner Overload06 Jul 2008 05:12 GMT4
I am having a problem.  It's the 4th of July and we got company
coming.  All our relatives and friends are coming this evening to get
drunk and eat while the kids shoot off fireworks.  Yesterday my
husband bought all the beer booze fireworks and food.  On the way home
Weedwhacker string problems06 Jul 2008 03:27 GMT11
I bought a new electric weedwhacker last fall on a closeout sale.  I
finally used it today, and it started out working well, but then the
string kept breaking off INSIDE the string holder (whatever that is
called).  Anyhow, I have to keep taking off that cover over the string
