| Energy savings of a ' fridge | 24 Apr 2008 05:36 GMT | 126 |
I just saw an Energy Star commercial which stated that a 'fridge built ten years ago uses twice as much electricity as a new one. Does that sound like a logical stat to you? I'll have to spend some time researching that when I get time but it sounds a bit inflated to me.

Hi one and all I am having a little problem. Last night I turned on the wall switch that activates my ceiling fan / 60 watt light in my daughter's room. The light bulb popped out with a blue flash. No big deal right? I went

| Urethaning a front wood door | 24 Apr 2008 04:25 GMT | 6 |
I have a wood front door that needed (due to age) to be stained and urethaned again. This is the first time since the door was new (originally stained and urethaned then). I managed to stain it again nearly to my satisfaction (I'm picky) and I put one coat of urethane

| Height for rural mailbox | 24 Apr 2008 03:43 GMT | 63 |
Does anyone know what the height is supposed to be for a rural mailbox? I live on a rural gravel road and there is a deep ditch next to the road. I originally put a wooden post right on the edge of the road, but in summer the box just falls over after heavy rains because

| Flat roofs, glue or mechanically fasten? | 24 Apr 2008 02:59 GMT | 8 |
My current roof has mechanical fasteners (and is stretched?). But I'll need a new roof soon and I've looked at the WeatherBond website and that stuff is glued down. Temperature problems with a glued roof? Why use mechanical fasteners?

| what's a skilled helper worth? | 24 Apr 2008 02:58 GMT | 9 |
I'm in an area where every worker that's ever pounded in a nail with a hammer thinks he's a "good carpenter". Three quarters of the time they don't have a clue how to cut a board square. So, what will a skilled helper cost me? Qualifications I'm interested

| Ceiling Fan -fan switch troubles | 24 Apr 2008 02:33 GMT | 7 |
Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I have a hunter ceiling fan with a seperate fan and light pull chain. My better half pulled the chain out of the fan switch, it was a 3 speed switch high, medium, low & off. I went to the depot and bought a new switch, it ...

| How much damage can a House sill plate take? | 24 Apr 2008 01:54 GMT | 6 |
Due to Termite and (believe it or not) Raccoon damage, my house sill plate might need changing. The sill plate has certain sections that have been eaten away at… none of these locations is under a rafter location.

| Rewiring a Vent/Heat/Light unit in bathroom | 24 Apr 2008 01:27 GMT | 15 |
I'm in the process of replacing an existing Vent/Heat/Light unit in my bathroom. The old wiring setup on this system seems odd to me. The previous installer is running three Romex wires to the unit. There is a two gang switch controlling (with one double switch).

| new dehumidifier for basement? | 23 Apr 2008 18:31 GMT | 13 |
got a fairly old (1940's) house with a basement that tends to get humid in the summertime - no visible water intrusion, it just gets damp. I assume because it stays nice and cool down there and the hot air from outside has a lot of water in it that just can't stay when

| footbridge question | 23 Apr 2008 18:09 GMT | 12 |
I would like to construct a very simple footbridge over our creek. The distance is around 12-14 feet from bank to bank. I figured on using two 16' pieces of lumber as the support (about 18-20 inches apart), with 1x6 decking boards along the top. About 2.5' to 3' wide.

| Better Junction Boxes | 23 Apr 2008 17:58 GMT | 5 |
I have discovered a junction box where a wire splits into 4. What a MESS! It's got these huge nuts to hold the wires together and everything is twisted and barely fits. And, of course, one of the connections is broken.
