Water Test Results - HELP16 Apr 2008 02:44 GMT5
I purchased a home last year and insisted on a comprehensive water
test.  The test showed 3 items of concern, but my inspector insured me
that those items were as a result of the water softener which he did
not bypass to get a sample.  I accepted those answers but am now not
Buying a stove    Installing the cord16 Apr 2008 02:34 GMT7
I looked at a stove at Home Depot the other day.  I was ready to buy
one.  They have "free" delivery and they carry away the existing
stove.
The stove I was looking at was around 600 bucks.  The "free" delivery

What to do with excess paint?16 Apr 2008 02:27 GMT1
You can make your very own toxic waste dump!
"Two pits, each about 5 feet wide, nearly 8 feet long and a foot deep, that
were dug in the backyard of a house and filled to the brim with 120 gallons
of paint and thinners and other hazardous substances used in the painting
Ice Makers15 Apr 2008 22:59 GMT7
I am getting a new refrigerator today and will put the old one in the
garage.  I would like to remove the old ice maker so I would have more
space in the freezer.  Does anyone know how difficult this is?
(Frigidaire)  And is it safe to just take it out?  I mean, I assume
How to start a draft in a fireplace15 Apr 2008 22:57 GMT9
Someone told me a good way to start a draft in a fireplace it to take
one sheet of a newspaper, wad it and roll it at the same time so it
will burn well and is tall with a "handle" at the base, light the top,
and hold it up inside the fireplace, close to the chimney.
Need advice about water softener usage15 Apr 2008 18:36 GMT4
I am moving into a new house that is 8 years old, it is equipped with
water softener, I never had a water softener so I have few questions.
I called the water department lab in our town and asked them about the
hardness of the water in the subdivision that I am moving into, they
Question About "Temporary Power Taps" (Power Strips)15 Apr 2008 18:19 GMT2
The Phillips portable DVD player has -- for some unknown reason -- an
old-fashioned plug (equal-sized prongs).  It is plugged into a
UL-approved "temporary power tap" that has the uneven-sized
receptacles, with one slot larger than the other.  The strip has three
How to cut railroad ties?15 Apr 2008 16:34 GMT11
I need to crosscut a few railroad ties for landscaping, and maybe make
a couple crude half-lap joints.  I've got a light-duty chain saw,  an
old circular saw, and some hand saws.
Any advice?  Better ways?
Repair wrought iron railing?15 Apr 2008 16:22 GMT23
Another non-DIY question. The house I'm getting ready to sell has a
wrought iron railing on the porch steps - about 3 steps worth from the
sidewalk to the cement porch. Sometime last yr the end upright piece
broke (square hollow piece, not one of the twisty spindle things). The
How clean wall heater vents?15 Apr 2008 12:31 GMT5
My  two-sided wall heater 's vents are dirty and some have
lost paint.  They look terrible.  For years I have been resolving
to Do Something About It.  I even bought a spray can appropriate for a
heat-emitting device.
Squeaks in subfloor15 Apr 2008 05:07 GMT6
My 20 year old house is getting new rugs. Before the installers come in,
I'm cutting out sections of old carpet where squeaks have developed. I
have taken two approaches. first, ball-peening the old nails back in
snugly and then screwing down adjacent to the old screws with new
from cricketlogic.blogspot.com15 Apr 2008 04:54 GMT1
It is a routine affair in India (and probably in most of the cricket
playing nations in the sub-continent) to handover gifts (in cash and
kind) to the groundsmen after a cricket match.
According to cricketlogic.blogspot.com, most of the cricketers,
