Mold Smell At Night25 Feb 2008 01:49 GMT17
Well, as a followup, I managed to fix the source of the water leak in
my wall (overflowing sewer pipe that wasn't capped during a botched
later-nineties remodel ).
Anyway, that leak had caused a nasty mold infestation on my drywall
Basement replacement25 Feb 2008 00:23 GMT2
My basement is ugly.  The walls are made out of cement blocks.  I want
one made out of red bricks for appearance sake.  I plan to rip the old
walls out and build new ones.  How many men do I need to lift the
house while I do thge demolition and rebuilding.  I am referring to
Generac Pressure Washer - Replace or repair pump?24 Feb 2008 21:07 GMT5
Model G21 (01536-1) 2100 PSI
This thing did not work right straight from the store. At any rate,
here's the issue: Once the pressure builds up it's fine until I release
the trigger. Then it goes to standby mode (low pressure). But when I
Remodel can or new construction can?24 Feb 2008 19:39 GMT5
I have about 50% of my ceiling sheet rock down.
I am about to purchase about 50 hi-hat recessed lights for various locations
of the house.  The problem is I can't decide whether I should get the
remodel kind or the new construction kind.  The housing will be the same

How to widen hole through wall header24 Feb 2008 19:08 GMT10
I need to widen a hole I made through 3 2x4's with 2 spade bits.  I
made a hole with a 1" bit, then used a 3/4" bit next to it, so that it
overlapped just a bit.  Unfortunately I started the second hole at an
angle, and by the time I got down into the last 2x4 the center was

Water Heater Question24 Feb 2008 18:07 GMT11
Does the venting of a water heater have to be vented separately or can it be
vented through the furnace?
What are the effects if it is, if any?
Thanks Bg
"Replacement Windows" versus "New Windows"24 Feb 2008 17:55 GMT25
I have just returned from shopping for windows to replace old, damaged
windows in my 60 year old home.
Both brands I have looked at, Marvin and Anderson, offer either "new
construction" windows which demand that the interior casing and trim be
Wire a furnace blower to use as workshop exhaust fan?24 Feb 2008 17:01 GMT6
I have a furnace blower and I'd like to convert it to a workshop
exhaust fan.  Not entirely sure how to wire it.  Motor says its
120/240V.  Can I just wire it directly up to household current?
New shingles24 Feb 2008 16:55 GMT6
My neighbor's roof received minor storm damage recently and she called
a roofer.  She was told that they couldn't replace individual shingles
anymore because shingle size has changed from inches to metric length.
I haven't heard this before.  True?
Pocket door installation24 Feb 2008 13:35 GMT2
When you get a pocket door kit, do you install the door frame on top of the
concrete slab and install flooring (tiles or wood) to it's edge, or do you
first install the flooring then install the pocket door frame over the
flooring?
6" duct bathroom exhaust fan24 Feb 2008 10:45 GMT5
OK this is probably a really stupid question but I thought I ask...
I would like to get a high power exhaust fan for my bath.  Most of them use
6" duct to vent to the roof.  My roof vent is 4" and I don't want to change
it.
Can a metal stud wall support a 52" flatscreen24 Feb 2008 03:30 GMT12
I think I know the answer to this (NO!) but buddy who did the wall for me
says that he can insert wood into the metal stud and then lag-bolt the TV
mount to that.  I want to believe him but that is why I am here:  will a 2
foot length of wood in a metal stud support a 100 pound ...
Fixed shop vac24 Feb 2008 03:27 GMT7
My old craftsman shop vac started to smell "hot", like the motor was burning
out. I removed the top cap over the motor, and verified that the brushes were
fine. On further inspection, I discovered that there were two wires that had
broken loose from their commutator connection. I ...
