Kitchen recessed lighting, flourescent screw in vs dedicated27 Feb 2008 23:31 GMT8
I'd like to use flourescent bulbs in our remodeled kitchen's recessed
fixtures - I think. I'm not sure they'll be bright enough, but expect
they will be. My main concern is whether to install the dedicated
flourescent cans, or keep my options open by installing screw base
glue advice27 Feb 2008 23:20 GMT6
Bought this 4 inch high "peel and stick" type vinyl baseboard stuff
(bought a 100' roll) and it held great for about three months, then started
falling off. I would like to buy a glue in a caulk form that would stick
this to the wall like sh*t to a blanket....was going to use air ...

30A breaker feeding a 100A sub-panel?27 Feb 2008 23:00 GMT5
I was visiting my brother's house during some basement remodeling, and
noticed that the electrical contractor had added a 100A loadcenter to feed
the new basement lights, etc.
The new 100A loadcenter is fed via a 30A double-pole breaker in in one of
Sharing well and pump--how much should we charge?27 Feb 2008 22:50 GMT43
I share a well with my neighbor.  For both of us, the well and pump
were supplied by the developer who old us the land on which we built
last year.  Both houses use the well and pump, but only one house
supplies the electricity--and that's our house!  We agreed that we
Briggs and Stratton enjoys crippling its employees!27 Feb 2008 22:39 GMT7
Just wanted to let everybody know that by buying Briggs and Stratton
products, you are supporting one of the most unsafe companies in
America. I am a former employee(I quit!), after they had repeatedly
let me know how they do not care how unsafe they are or how many
water softener repeatedly forming salt bridge?27 Feb 2008 22:26 GMT8
The first year or so we lived in this house, the water softener worked
fine and  used about 1 bag of salt per month. This past summer, after
dishes not getting cleaned properly in the dishwasher I realized there
might be a problem with the water softener and that we hadn't needed

Elec Start, but no snow is coming out the chute.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
gas fire place27 Feb 2008 21:21 GMT4
My husband and I just bought a 5 yr old home. The gas fire place is
gorgeous and huge, but won't stay lit. I can light the pilot and then
turn the knob to "ON"  and the fire is wonderful. It stays lit about 5
minutes and then it is like the gas just shuts off. Am I doing
plaster restoration27 Feb 2008 20:43 GMT13
I am removing wallpaper in an 80 year old house. Underneath the
wallpaper is plater walls. In many areas, the top coat is cracking, or
buldging away from the horsehair base. The base is still solid and
intact.
Tree Sap Removal27 Feb 2008 19:54 GMT13
Any suggestions on a solvent that would remove tree sap from a car
without damaging the paint?  I've only tried alcohol so far.  Scraping it
off with a wooden tongue depressor works but is  time consuming since there
are about 100 stains.  And of course it would be a black car.
Well Water Treatment for Low pH27 Feb 2008 19:30 GMT7
I moved to a home with a well 2 1/2 years ago, my first home with a well, so
managing it is all new to me.
I have colleagues and neighbors who have warned that if the pH of the well
water is low (acidic) and you have copper pipes, you could develop pinhole
What is green tint on Milgard windows?27 Feb 2008 19:08 GMT1
We recently bought a home where the previous owners had installed new
Milgard windows. We noticed at certain angles and with certain
lighting that there is a green tint to the glass. My hunch is that
these are one of Milgard's coatings for energy efficiency, UV
80-90 degC temp controller27 Feb 2008 18:10 GMT10
I have a project that may need to use dental acrylics to pot a mini
PCB within a plastic housing to form a solid object the size of a
stick of chewing gum.
Injection plastic, the normal industrial process, to pot the PCB had
Old BX or new Romex?  What would you do?27 Feb 2008 16:33 GMT20
Which would you rather see in a basement for wiring?  Old BX or new
Romex?  I'm really not sure which should be preferable.  BX has cloth
covered insulators and just the little strip for ground, but it is
working well (was working on a switch hot and accidentally touched the
