Suburban survival skill #20412 Dec 2007 00:06 GMT4
When you buy fluorescent bulbs to replace the incandescent ones in
your lamps and fixtures, keep the box and receipt.  They're guaranteed
for years on end--but I've had three or four fail within 18 months.

Pop up rod slides  down11 Dec 2007 23:01 GMT2
In further experimenting with my pop up rod problem, I noticed when I
force down the plug in the basin to make a tight fit, the rod comes up
as it should. In that sequence all is fine....but the minute after I
fill the basin with water and let go of that plug, the rod slides down
Crown molding scarf joint question11 Dec 2007 22:02 GMT12
I am putting up crown molding at the top of my kitchen cabinets. When
you are scarf jointing 2 pieces of molding at a 45, do you still cut
the molding on the miter saw upside down with the bottom molding
resting on the fence? ( similiar to doing outside and inside corners?)

NEED MORE POWER - Electric Chainsaw11 Dec 2007 20:46 GMT10
I want to get the maximum power from my electric chainsaw.  If it was
a gas model, I'd simply replace the gas engine with something like a
Chevy 350 V8.  But this is an electric saw.  I considered replacing
the motor with a 5HP 240volt motor, but I found that I need 3 phase
66 degree house?11 Dec 2007 20:27 GMT10
I've been experimenting with my thermostat the past couple of weeks to
see how I can save energy. I've noticed that if I keep my thermostat
at 67 degrees my boiler will cycle every hour or two to maintain the
temp - but if I set my thermostat to 66 degrees it will cycle every

Dock on my swimming pool?11 Dec 2007 17:00 GMT6
I live in the northeast (New Jersey) and have a 15 x 30 inground
swimming pool. Currently I have a vinyl pool cover that I will need to
replace prior to next winter. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, so
safety is a maximum concern... The pool is only used in June, July,

Years ago I bought a cheapo Digital Concepts camera for $15 - 10 rebate.
Didn't even have a flash. Still works, but it's more a toy than a cam.
I'm strapped for cash, but I've got $150 in Sears gift cards. Figger
I'll buy myself a real beginners digcam for Xmas.
phone repair; dying buttons; hard long press11 Dec 2007 16:12 GMT5
All my portable phones seem to be dying the same way.
In particular; take my Vtech gigaphone.  This phone, like the
others in the house, has a large flexible membrane
which implements the unit's push buttons.  When the
