My wife took our 22# dog to the vet this week for her shots.  The vet
prescribed Sentinel to protect against fleas and heartworm.  I am
wondering if this is the most safe and effective solution for the dog
or if it is simply the most convenient for the owners.  

If a label says "Gordon's 72% chlordane emulsifiable", what does
"emulsifiable" mean? Thank you.

we live near a creek and we have a rat problem any advice?

We live in a rural location.  Recently, I spotted a small grey shrew
outside - which delighted myself and the family as they are such unusual
