WD 40 - Did You Know?20 Aug 2004 02:19 GMT10
The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and
degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in
1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical
Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a

Why buy a house?19 Aug 2004 23:08 GMT389

and buy a house.  I'm so sick of them droning on about points-this and
closing costs-that.  But the more I think about, the less sense it seems
to make for me.  Here's why:

Slats (No Box Spring) for Bed?19 Aug 2004 18:32 GMT6
An estate sale near my home has a nice deal on a fairly new mattress and
box-like frame with a drawer underneath. There is no box spring mattress. The
frame is nothing special; just veneer over plywood, I presume. But I need a
second bed, the mattress looks good, and I like the look ...

Roof turbans18 Aug 2004 22:51 GMT15
This is a serious question, but what do the turban looking things on the top
of a house actually do? Do they let air into the attic, or keep the attic
cooler or what exactly?
(Yes, I'm seriously needing to know)
Question on replacement windows18 Aug 2004 04:55 GMT2
We're about to have our windows replaced, in a 1961 bungalow in
Saskatchewan, Canada (COLD winters, HOT summers... -40 to +40).
At the same price, I have the option of dual pane lowE/argon or triple
pane sealed units. These are the Sears Weatherbeaters, and we're going
replacing wood shingles with steel roof18 Aug 2004 03:42 GMT3
Hi, I am located in Northern California and I am going to replace
my wood shingle roof. I talked to Cal-pac about their steel roof.
They recommended putting the new steel roof on top of my old wood
shingles roof, saying it can provide an extra layer of insulation
Furniture arrangement software18 Aug 2004 02:06 GMT5
I am looking for an application that will allow me to try visually
arranging furniture in a room.
Something like Ikea's "home planner" applications but not limited to
Ikea furniture.
Wood floor stain/refinish - bad job?17 Aug 2004 22:15 GMT3
I just had my oak floor refinished, and have some questions about the
final result.  The floors were sanded to bare wood.  I saw them at
this state, and they were very smooth and light in color.  I chose to
have a fairly dark stain applied.
Broker commission for sale of home17 Aug 2004 20:37 GMT12
Recently, I am trying to put my home for sale.  Broker filled out the
sales contract and mailed out to me (I am out of town..home is in
different town).  His commission shows 5% PLUS sales tax on purchase
price of the home.  Is it normal practice to pay state sales tax in
