Carpenter Bees in wood on house, now what?14 May 2004 05:39 GMT3
The roof comes down and where the roof meets the front of the house,
there is a 1x10 board nailed into place to cover the gap between the
roof and the front of the house.  This 1x10 is also what holds the
gutter in place.  The gutter and the board are painted brown.
Question13 May 2004 20:05 GMT2
What are the chances of co-housing becoming dominant or becoming
mainstream?
Ceiling fan - ticks13 May 2004 05:59 GMT3
Just installed a new Hunter ceiling fan. It ticks. I do not see any
wobble. It ticks at least 2 times (maybe 3 or 3) for each rotation.
When I turn it off the ticks continue but slow down. I have tried
jiggling the bottom part of the fan where the lights are and the tick
Bathroom drain keeps overflowing12 May 2004 09:15 GMT4
Hi we have a small bathroom, with a shower and basin, no bath (should really
be called a shower room I guess)
Ever since we have owned the house, (about 5 years) we have had troubles
with the drains overflowing and blocking up.  We have had many different
Wool vs Olefin carpet?11 May 2004 13:29 GMT2
Folks,
I'm planning to carpet the loft in the house I'm building in the rainy
Cascades.  We apparently can get a good deal on a tight weave wool carpet.
I've no experience with wool carpeting- my house in the city has Olefin and
Cracks in ceiling..advice?11 May 2004 05:17 GMT4
Older house, was built in the 60s I think, and lately I'm noticing something
like cracks in the ceiling in most of the rooms, but it's more of what looks
like a seam about to show.  In all but one room, it hasn't come through the
paint yet, if that makes sense. In one room, it's an ...
Asbestos Insulation Board knocked down with a hammer!10 May 2004 23:15 GMT8
I live in a residential area with children running in the streets and
people sitting in their gardens. Last weekend a neighbour (who is
building an extension) knocked down about 5 sheets (3 foot x 6 foot
each) of Asbestos Insulation Board (upto 40% amosite) simply with a
Some bunch of insects in the roof of my house10 May 2004 18:12 GMT1
When I stand outside and look up at the 1st floor roof over my front
porch, I hear what sounds like a large mass of insects chewing and
crawling around.  I'm not sure if it is coming from inside the wood
off the front of the eaves (eaves is the part of the roof that
Outdoor Furniture?????10 May 2004 15:08 GMT1
Patio furniture, or garden furniture, like an Adirondack chair or a
wrought iron piece seems like a good idea, but I am not sure. Does
anyone know which kind of garden or patio furniture is most
comfortable, or lasts longer. SummerSeat.com says there Adirondack
HRV unit sufficient for bathroom ventilation09 May 2004 03:45 GMT1
Hi, we are currently buying a house which is under construction.  The
house specs call for a regular HRV unit.   Is the air exchange by the
HRV unit sufficient to ventilate bathrooms and laundry rooms without a
seperate exhaust fan??  The specs don't call for any additional fans ...
My pool water is green & cloudy09 May 2004 01:29 GMT2
Hi All, Here's the deal.  2 weeks ago, we went away for hte weekend.
Floating chlorinator ran out of tabs, came home to an algae bloom.
For the last 10 days I have shocked almost evry night (probably 8
times) used 2 different algaecides (1 chlorine, 1 copper based) and
Foul odor from kitchen sink spray hose08 May 2004 23:56 GMT1
whenever I use my kitchen sink spray hose, a foul odor similar to
rotten eggs comes out. This is not the case for the faucet that shares
the water line with the hose. The faucet and hose are both just 3
years old and good quality Kohler. I tried removing the spray head and
Priming new exterior boards before painting08 May 2004 23:26 GMT2
I'm having some exterior boards replaced on my house before it gets
painted.  These are not siding boards but are corner pieces that have
water damage.  I would have thought that the painter should prime
these new boards on all sides and edges before putting them up, but he
Window A/C unit - drill holes in water pan ?08 May 2004 19:49 GMT13
I know that newer units don't have drain holes and the outside fan actually
dips in to the water pan to assist in heat dispersement.
My problem is that every damn fall, I end up getting some water on the rugs
inside and it's cruddy rusty water.  I try to tip the unit before bringing ...
