light bulb burning out blows fuses12 Jan 2004 20:35 GMT9
Should I be concerned when 7 of the last 9 light bulbs that have burned out
in my house caused a breaker to trip?
I can understand how it could happen, but this never happened in my last
house.
Three days notice to pay rent or quit12 Jan 2004 17:19 GMT32
Happy holidays to all.
I got back from the holidays on January 4th after a nice visit with my
folks who live out-of-state.  I paid rent that night via the drop box
at my apartment complex (which will not take a post dated check).
Close vents in attic?12 Jan 2004 15:55 GMT1
I have a few vents in my attic.  One is a fixed open louver type and
two side-circular vent fans.
The attic is insulated on the floor to keep the heat in below.  Now
that's it's getting really cold up here in the NE, I noticed that the
2 thermostats competing for control12 Jan 2004 14:31 GMT6
In the master bedroom, I have two thermostats that operate different
heating/cooling methods.  One thermostat is for baseboard heat that is
only located in the master bedroom.  The other thermostat is for the
forced hot air system which heats the master bedroom and two other
Please advise--how to tell when a water heater needs to be replaced12 Jan 2004 14:09 GMT1
My parents' water heater is 20+ years old (it came with the house when
they moved in).  I know that they're typically good for about 10 to 15
years.
Recently, my parents came home from a trip, and found that their water
Want to buy a 'Hot Water Extractor' for carpet cleaning12 Jan 2004 04:42 GMT1
A very happy new year to all!! I just rented a 'hot water
extractor' form Home Depot for cleaning the carpet. I am impressed
with the cleaning!! I was thinking of buying one. A couple of
questions regarding that..
Air Conditioner12 Jan 2004 03:44 GMT4
I would like to ask, can a split air-conditioner be installed
vertically instead of horizontally? Because, the wall in the house is
blocked so the available space is rather narrow.
thanks
Water supply to toilet just .... stopped.12 Jan 2004 02:23 GMT4
My wife complained to me this morning that her toilet tank didn't
refill. I took a quick look and figured that the float valve was
busted. I replaced the innards this evening and that's when I realized
that the reason that her tank didn't fill is because there is no water

How do I tell if an electrical box is strong enough for a fan?11 Jan 2004 15:49 GMT1
It is a 30 year old house and my mother in law asks me to look and see
what it would take to replace a couple lights with ceiling fan combos.
I replaced a chandeleir in my house with a fan and didnt worry because the
fan said the box needed to be rated for something like 40 lbs ...
Seeking garage door advice11 Jan 2004 05:18 GMT9
I have a 2-car garage with a wood door on the front.  The opener was
replaced within the past year, but the door is old.
Within the past week or so, since the weather turned colder (<20F as a
high), the door begins to close and then reverses itself.  This
Anyone tried WarmFloor?10 Jan 2004 22:47 GMT1
Anyone here tried the WarmFloor product?  It's a type of flexible
electric heating element that you put below the floor to warm it in
winter.  Its primary use seems to be installation below tile when you're
laying a new floor, but you can also put it under the subfloor to warm
Liftmaster Garage Door stops in cold weather10 Jan 2004 22:44 GMT5
I have a pair of 10 foot wide garage doors that each use their own
Liftmaster 1/3HP Security+ opener.  The openers are only 2 years old,
and the garage doors are close to 15 years old.
When it gets cold, the door will STOP when going up, and will reverse
Remodel for profit and fun : )10 Jan 2004 22:22 GMT2
I hope this is the right forum to ask this question, it was the most
accurate looking one I could find. I am thinking about buying an older
house that needs work done to it and remodel it and then sell for some
profit, it does't have to be a huge amount but enough to be worth it.
Clothes Dryer blowing cold air..10 Jan 2004 21:25 GMT5
I have a Whirlpool Gas clothes dryer (Model LG6881XS) and
it has stopped drying the clothes. It tumbles the clothes
but seems to be blowing cold air even at the highest temperature
setting. What could be the problem? Is there anything I should look
