Poor hot water heater performance24 Oct 2003 15:21 GMT3
I have a 40 gallon "high efficiency" gas hot water heater that's about 4-5 years
old at this point.  EVER SINCE IT WAS INSTALLED I have felt that the amount of
hot water available was much less than expected.  For example, when taking a
shower using one of the current crop of shower ...

shingling question that's always bugged me...24 Oct 2003 01:26 GMT2
Here's a question that I've never been able to figure out.
Why when nailing ashfault shingles do you nail below the tar strip and not
above or in the tar strip?
It seems to me that if you nail below the strip then wind-driven rain can
update to "HOA fence problem"23 Oct 2003 23:20 GMT34
Today while driving through the neighborhood I found another house in
exact same brick with fence in exact same stain. Is this going to help
us at all? I'm posting my earlier message below for those who don't
know the context.
Dyson Animal or Riccar?23 Oct 2003 19:23 GMT4
Ok, I'm finally willing to spend the money for a great vacuum. Since I
have pets and pet hair, I need a really sucking machine. Dyson gets a
lot of good comments, as does Riccar. I have both rugs and hardwood
floors. Which is better?
Shower Drain Needs Replacement  HELP23 Oct 2003 18:40 GMT1
I had someone come out and pressure test my showers as the vinyl pan liner
had been cut out as it was holding water a few months back and tile was
delayed.  He says that in one of the showers on a slab, there is seepage,
based on him pumping up the drain line between fittings using ...
Miele Pro Cannister: Any Negatives?23 Oct 2003 16:54 GMT1
I tried a Miele Pro at a local dealer and it seems solid and powerful
enough. I have a combination of hardwood floors and rugs, plus a small
flight of stairs. I also have three cats and a dog.
I'm willing to spend the money, but am interested in hearing from
How to Repair Holes in Bathroom Tile?23 Oct 2003 15:07 GMT4
Because of slow water flow problems, we had a plumber replace the
bathtub faucet , showerhead, and all the piping between it.  The
original faucet had two separated handles.  The new faucet has just
one handle with a big round 'splash shield' (for lack of a better
Converting a woodburning fireplace22 Oct 2003 22:40 GMT5
We had stopped using our fireplace for the usual reasons : the mess,
heat loss.
Now I would like to start having a fire again and was going to get new
fire screen, tools etc. My husband would like to convert it to gas
buying a house in a new development (SF Bay Area)22 Oct 2003 20:55 GMT4
I found a new townhouse development (around 60 townhouses) in San
Francisco Bay Area that I'm interested in. I went there and got the
pre-requisites to make it in the preferred list, so I went ahead and
locked one of the townhouses. I don't have to leave any deposit until

City to City Movers -- experiences?21 Oct 2003 19:44 GMT5
I'm going to be moving from Berkeley, CA to Albuquerque, NM in a few
months, and I'm trying to decide whether to rent a U-Haul or go with City
to City. (I've ruled out traditional movers, e.g. Mayflower, because
they're expensive and I don't trust them.) My main reason for ...
Wood hardener to fortify pine21 Oct 2003 14:50 GMT2
Can I apply wood hardener (such as Minwax) to soft (pine, I think)
screen bead molding and then paint it? I have plain, flat kitchen
cabinet doors and I am planning to add "picture frame" molding to each
drawer and cabinet door using screen bead molding. The stuff is cheap
