House Access Help31 Jul 2006 22:33 GMT4
I'm rather new at home automation. I'd be interested in feedback
regarding a plan for a passive entry system to my home.  The plan and
components I have envisioned exist but I have not seen them configured
in the way I've planned.
INSTEON over CAT5; was Re: What can I replace this latching relay system with?31 Jul 2006 13:22 GMT1
In response to a recent comp.home.automation question on how to retrofit
wiring to provide dimmed lighting and (preferably) provide automation to a
house that uses 1950's vintage relay-controlled lighting  (Subject: "What
can I replace this latching relay system with?"), I  ...

AD: Proficient Audio OVerstock Sale29 Jul 2006 01:27 GMT10
Pardon the blatant sales post.
I rarely bother promoting "overstock sales" from vendors because it's a
hassle keeping track of short-term price changes.  However, one of our
suppliers sent us a list of Proficient Audio speakers and impedance matching
Channel Vision A-BUS systems27 Jul 2006 21:11 GMT7
I am looking for feedback from users of the Channel Vision A-BUS
system.  Lacking that, I will take opinions from non users.  Are their
components of good quality and reliable?   Any input would be
appreciated.
CM10A (IBM Home Director serial i/f) AC jack (outlet)27 Jul 2006 00:42 GMT2
There is an AC outlet (jack) on the IBM Home Director version of the
CM10A; it has no power (off) by default and it doesn't respond to unit
address 1 (there is no unit select switch).  Presumeably there is a
function code that will activate it.  Anyone know how (the CM11/CM10
Help Wanted26 Jul 2006 03:02 GMT14
My business has reached the point where we are unable to handle all of the
incoming sales calls.  The ideal candidate will be a sales rep with a
broad-based knowledge of CCTV, security, home automation, intercom and
access control systems.  Someone with a basic understanding of ...
X10 Code Translator24 Jul 2006 13:42 GMT14
Earlier this year we had a discussion on handy widgets for X10.  One of the
things we kicked around was a code translator that would accept commands
from a RF remote, and translate those commands to other house / unit codes.
I had been working on PIC replacement for the RR501 to ...
X10 Wall Switches Stops Responding Remotely24 Jul 2006 05:52 GMT1
I replace two X10 wall switches today (only 1 was bad - I
misdiagnosed the other case).  Now none of the wall switches
respond remotely.  Before I reverse my effort to track down
the culprit (electricity is not my favorite thing to mess with)
DSC 155524 Jul 2006 05:25 GMT2
Can someone help me get this system going. I just moved into a house
that has 1555 DSC alarm installed but no code was given. I have powered
the unit off and on and tried *8 5555 and *8 1555, nothing really
happen except the control beeps. How can I recover or change the
X10 RF equipment - is there a difference between UK and US gear?23 Jul 2006 08:32 GMT6
I'm in the UK and have many X10 items working succesfully.  I now want
some extra bits and bobs, specifically motion sensors and key fob
remotes.  They are a horrendous price in the UK but online in the US
and from US based ebayers, quite affordable.  My question is: will
RS232 remote control22 Jul 2006 15:02 GMT3

Tool kit for network wiring22 Jul 2006 00:06 GMT3
I remember seeing a message with the address for a tool kit for doing
network wiring, punch down tool, wire tracing, etc., but can't find it
now. I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks
Audio Matrix Switcher21 Jul 2006 06:06 GMT2
I've gone around and around on whole house audio, and think I've decided
just to push normal-ol' line level signals around the house.  I like the
A-Bus stuff, pretty well, but the multi-source keypads are expensive, as are
the multi-source hubs.
Weird Insteon behavior20 Jul 2006 21:14 GMT23
I have an Insteon switch that when pressed turns on it's own load and
one other switch that it is crosslinked to. Been working fine for the
month or two it's been installed.  We went away for 3 weeks and upon our
return we now find that after the switch is turned on and the
