I'm looking for a reed switch to sense if a garage door is open. Radio Shack used to sell one for security systems. It was maybe 4" long, and would handle a gap of an inch or so. Any ideas for a mechanical switch would also be appreciated.

Since they both use 2.4Ghz, is there a problem with trying to set up an X10 system where a Netgear wireless network is already operating? thanks for any info Lew

It will simplify things for the translators if the X-10 codes which are to be translated to/from Insteon or UPB are segregated by housecode with any specific housecode limited to 100% X-10 devices or to Insteon and/or UPB devices.

I am looking for software to communicate with a TW523 from a Linux box. I found softwares like twseriald and rt_x10 but they do not compile on my actually Linux system. I think those software are too old for the latest headers and libraries used on my system.

My home automation can speak status messages over the PC speakers. Now I want to send this messages to all rooms in our house. Radio broadcasting seems not to be the best solution, because I would like to decide which message should be sent to which room.
