I recently had 2 X-10 modules become flakey and then stop working at
all.  Did some swapping and moving and soon concluded that the modules
were on the opposite side of my 220 from the controllers and most of the
modules.  I am guessing that the power company changed something out ...

Howdy y'all
I'm just starting out with home automation, and one of the first things I
want to install is a gigabit-capable network infrastructure. My two options
appear to be Cat5e or Cat 6.

I'm building new house and I would like to be able to distribute rgb from
whatever device (tivo,satelite?) from my wiring closet to any given
location...what wire do I need to run for terminating to rgb?

What is the best?

I am converting an old warehouse into a loft/studio/offices.   The
warehouse will have 208V 3 phase electrical in one panel (for the hvac
system) as well as a separate single phase panel.  The building is 50
feet wide by 100 feet long.

Anybody know of any software to document/plan cable runs? Would like the
ability to draw my house layout, showing existing and planned cable runs.
Would like the ability to identify sockets, lighting points, network points,
etc.

I have baseboard electric heat with line voltage thermostats.  I'd like to
be able to control each individual room's thermostat from a PC.  I figure I
can use relays to switch the heaters on and off.  And I figure I can pull
thermocouples into each room to sense the temperature.  ...

Anyone know why I couldn't turn on an electric blanket near bedtime, then slowly dim it off after going to sleep?

I just moved into a remodeled house, and I'm trying to get X10 working in
the new house.  I'm using parts that were in our old house and working
pretty well, but I havn't paid any attention to set up for a long time since
I had things the way I want them.

I have a linux server at home that I run x10 devices from.  Right now I
use ppower (http://ppower.sourceforge.net/) as the program that sends
the devices the signals and I wrote my own software in perl as the web

I'm french, and i would like to know why home automation is less used
in europe ? is it a price problem ?
