I'm in east TN and have a rather large cactus collection (about 100
specimens).  I have a place that gets full (brutal) sun and would like
to plant a cactus that survives East Tennessee winters.   I have an
American cactus (from the USA west coast) which I propagated and tried

You might remember that last year I started a correspondence about my
idea that alders might be a possible grain crop.
My ideas and experience have moved on.
The cones break open around the middle and the breaks spread to the
First seeds started29 Jan 2009 22:41 GMT3
I just put 103 Granex and 36 Red Burgundy onion seeds in starter pots
today.  I am starting them in the house because I don't feel like
keeping the greenhouse warm enough.  Next month I will probably bite
the bullet and start running the heat.  Of course if the sun is out
Few Leaves - Plenty of Blooms29 Jan 2009 22:16 GMT1
I've got an odd problem with several of my dark red roses - they produce
very
few leaves - but plenty of blooms. Sometimes there are no leaves on the
cane. They are BlackBoy variants - taken by cutting. Not much of a  scent.

She say sit's dead.   Is there any hope to revive the thing?  Any
tips?  She is not able to go online - I'm just trying to help her -
said they were very expensive etc.

I've not grown onions before, so I'm a bit unsure as to the main difference
for sowing onion sets as opposed to seed?
Any advice appreciated

Lime-garden,ground or hydrated?29 Jan 2009 11:03 GMT8
I am aware that one should not put lime onto a plot at the same time
as manure,but what is a reasonable interval-3 weeks,3 months?
Also, what is the most cost effective type of lime to use.I am aware
that hydrated lime is expensive, and lowers the pH more, but is it worth
