Question on "Sweet Corn"23 Oct 2008 09:09 GMT1
I have still got some (quite a lot) growing on my allotment
that have not ripened.
As the weather is now getting colder, is there still time for
it to ripen ??
Sweet Corn23 Oct 2008 07:12 GMT9
I'm starting to plan ahead for next year's allotment crop and I'm looking at
sweet corn.  I know that some varieties have to be grown apart from other
varieties, but I'm confused between tendersweet, extra sweet, supersweet,
sugar sweet, etc.

i've just got 3 water chestnut plants.
just re-read the previous thread about them & intend to put them in a

Help out an autumn newbie23 Oct 2008 04:05 GMT5
I live in SW Utah, zone 6 or 10 depending on the map I look at.  It's
confusing.
I need to go out and torch the weeds in my garden and start for fall.
What would be a good itinerary?
Hibiscus Mutabilis, Confederate Rose23 Oct 2008 00:58 GMT3
The gentleman who gave me 5 cuttings last year which have now grown and are
beautifully blooming, says for me to cut them down almost to the ground when
the plants hiburnate.  Is this really necessary?

Some time ago I posted that we're going to NZ this autumn, so end of the
month it is!  I had a lot of helpful advice about things to see and places
to visit for which I'm very grateful.
Our itinerary (after a few days in Xian) is Kerikeri, Napier & Hawkes Bay,

The tomato glut at Nanneys Bridge Nursery drags on !
I caught sight of a tomato sauce recipe being prepared on the television
very recently.
I cannot recall the detail of the programme/channel.
water needs22 Oct 2008 19:33 GMT7
Curious as to how much water is needed for irrigation for the typical lawn
in terms of inches in the typical growing season, this includes rain as well
in my question?
Datura seeds22 Oct 2008 15:28 GMT22
To those who sent me emails for Datura seeds, I haven't forgotten, as
soon as the first week in November arrives, I will be posting them.
Remember to use gloves when handling the seeds.  I am told that just a
few can be fatal to a large animal although I am not sure how accurate
choosing two out of three trees22 Oct 2008 14:30 GMT10
i'm told a local store is selling, victoria plum trees, hardy pear trees
and beurre stella cherry trees.   since our garden is so tiny, we only at
the moment really have room for two out of the three of these trees.
which two would you experts choose, from the point of view of ...

We have this Hydrangea in the garden but don't know which it is.  As shown,
it is white when the flowers are young and they age to this gorgeous rich
burgundy colour.  It's a lacecap.  If anyone knows which it is or can hazard
