Friend has asked what conservatory plant she should buy. South facing, and gets rather hot in summer but no specific heating in winter, only heat from the house. Not gardeners but will follow instructions. I suggested a Tahiti lime or Brugmansia, provided it spent the summer

I don't know who it was here that recommended it, but I sowed a few drills of peas (Douce Provence) in open ground on my allotment 2 weeks ago and already there is very high germination rate with loads and loads of stout little shoots showing. I am well pleased with the advice ...

We've just demolished an old brick barbecue and propose to bury the rubble at the bottom of our new (40cm deep) garden bed. Is there likely to be a problem if I put the mortar in as well as the broken bricks? I know the mortar is alkaline, but am hoping it'll be deep enough not ...

I'm preparing an area of garden for growing vegetables later this / early next year - is it OK to dig "fresh" manure into the planting area then leave it for a few weeks, or should it be rotted beforehand? TIA
