fuchsia question13 Oct 2008 21:27 GMT16
A friend just brought me a hardy fuchsia "Lady bothby" a kind of a
climber he said. The plant is still small like 30cm. I want to plant
this fuchsia under a tree where it still gets some sun. Now the
question is: should I plant it now or wait for spring?
do cacti lean into the sun or away from it?13 Oct 2008 21:02 GMT6
I'm sure I've got some that lean away from the sun... but others appear
to lean into it.
Is there an answer to this?
To be honest, it's a bit of a problem with my large cacti as I need them

bubbly spinach13 Oct 2008 02:17 GMT8
having a nice crop of spinach just lately (first time ever!)
it's not a big deal, but i was wondering if anyone knows why some of my
spinach plants get "bubbly" leaves - it's as though the edges of the leaf
stop growing at some point, but the bulk of the leaf continues to expand, ...
Corn starch pots13 Oct 2008 02:13 GMT9
I have acquired and am trying some of those corn starch pots (maybe
3") that look like thin green plastic. They are said to break down in
the soil.
I have potted on some veggie seedlings in them, and will plant them
Bats13 Oct 2008 00:07 GMT5
They're dashing about all over the place.  Isn't this rather later than
usual?  We've had warm days and chilly nights for a while now and there have
been lots of mozzies and gnats about.  Could it be they're making up for
lost feeding time, due to the cold, wet summer?  I may be ...
crosses with B. Jiminy Cricket as parent12 Oct 2008 23:19 GMT5
Does anyone know of any crosses that have used Jiminy Cricket as a
parent?  It's been blooming very nicely for me for a couple of years,
even though I don't have a greenhouse and just have it under lights--
and outside over the summer.  I'd think they might be interesting if
my sick bougainvillea12 Oct 2008 23:08 GMT4
Hi there. I've had a rather nice bougainvillea with lots of purple
flowers on my balcony with a north/west view for the last year and
it's been very happy. I live in Los Angeles.
Just a month ago, it started dropping lots of flowers, but still
apple tree help12 Oct 2008 21:26 GMT3
Hi, I have just been out picking some apples from my trees.  I
inherited the trees when I moved here a couple of years ago, and the
trees are probably about 5 -10 years old.  I need some help with two
things, please.  (1) Some of the trees are very leggy, should I prune
Rhubarb12 Oct 2008 21:25 GMT5
I believe there is a ruling or an old wives' tale that says you must not
pick and eat your rhubarb after a certain date during the summer.  Anyone
know if this is the case, and if so why, and what the date is?

I have a tropical hydrangea (survived by yearly winter leaf
mummifications) that has grown too large and up against my house. Can
these be divided in the fall?     Zone 7, east TN.

What does 50% soil moisture content actually mean?12 Oct 2008 09:39 GMT6
Apologies for what may be a dumb and trivial question and I'm not sure
if this is the best group to query, but I'm wondering what a
particular soil moisture content actually means and how to achieve it
under controlled conditions. For example, if I have 100ml of a given
