| Which tomato variety? | 22 Aug 2008 03:01 GMT | 5 |
I live in the Upper Hudson Valley of NY, Zone approx 6a. I grow a lot of tomatoes, mostly for juice. In the collective opinions of this group, which variety should produce the most number of POUNDS of tomatoes per plant. I grow them in cages.

| Beans | 21 Aug 2008 23:07 GMT | 4 |
So...I let my bean crop get away from me. I usually harvest them when they're small and really tender. This year because of multiple family commitments, a pile of them got way too large. I opened the dried out pods and saved the beans on paper towels. Need

| Dratted Weather | 21 Aug 2008 22:13 GMT | 53 |
My poor veg garden has deteriorated into a heavy claggy mess of mud :( I dug the last of my potatoes yesterday and boy was it hard work finding the little gems in amongst all that wet soggy ground. When I walk between the rows my wellies get sucked into the ground and makes

South east England. One - raspberries. Two - plums. Autumn Bliss. Plants about five years old. Excellent crops until this year. Very poor and the leaves on several plants have lost their "green-ness" Prune to ground level every year about January and feed with Growmore at

| What is the area drained by a 1m3 void? | 21 Aug 2008 20:47 GMT | 5 |
I have just moved into a new house that has a badly water logged garden, due to it being a clay soil. I have just replaced the boiler which has left me with 2 1m3 cold water tanks.

| Globe artichoke question | 21 Aug 2008 18:45 GMT | 5 |
Several years ago I grew one from a seed and it cropped beautifully for about four years. It stopped when it became short of light - I don't think it's co-incidence. There's now a large fuchsia two feet away to the east, a caravan two feet

| Garden tools an extension of the mind and body. | 21 Aug 2008 17:39 GMT | 10 |
I started out using tools very similar to my fathers. The warren hoe comes to mind. Early on a shovel was a shovel designed for moving soft earth and perhaps a hole or two this was eclipsed by the spade and the Irish digging spade. The forks we had were designed for moving ...

| Paphiopedilum pics. | 21 Aug 2008 16:15 GMT | 1 |
I have a modest orchid collection, mainly Phalaenopsis. As I also have a collection of carnivorous plants, I would like to try growing Paphiopedilums, especially as they 'enjoy' the same growing conditions as quite a few of my cps. Two Paphs. that particularly interest me are P.

| Damons? Plums? | 21 Aug 2008 14:19 GMT | 278 |
We had some people in today who live in France and they were looking for Damsons which they say seem to be unknown there (Paris and Corsica) This got us onto what is the difference between a Damson and a Plum because both are Prunus and probably domestica? I understand that ...

| Forcing Hyacinths - Dark or light? | 21 Aug 2008 14:02 GMT | 2 |
I have brought some hyacinths to hopefully flower indoors over christmas in my Dad and Nan's memory but after last years growing them in the dark, found them to grow leggy rather than compact like my Dad and Nan use to get them to grow. Has anyone ever tried growing them in both ...

| Is this a form of wild blackberry?? | 21 Aug 2008 10:43 GMT | 1 |
I have noticed walking to work some bushes growing among some roses. They have tiny black berries (anoput the size of a raspberry). The stems are covered in small, almost hair-like prickles but no true thorns (like proper blackberry bushes). The berries are much smaller
