Compost Making. Utterly Confused!!11 Aug 2008 19:44 GMT50
I took on an allotment plot earlier this year, and quickly cleared half
of it to grow at least some crops this season whilst I intensively
double-dig and clear the other half. All of that is going well.
So, now I want to make a compost bin. Eventually  I plan to have 3.

eucryphia-which one?11 Aug 2008 15:46 GMT5
A fellow gardener has just lost a variegated snake bark maple, very
expensive but never really was happy! She has neutral soil in The Lee,
near Amersham Buckinghamshire, fairly protected but at the back of a
large border in front of a 6-foot flint wall. Soil not too dry.
climbing hydrangea11 Aug 2008 15:45 GMT1

10 years, however, this summer, the leaves are all drooping and turnin
brown fast!..my husband says it's dead..is he correct, or is it stil

Wilted sunflowers11 Aug 2008 14:45 GMT5
Hi All, I went away for a couple of days and my mum forgot to water all my
plants... :(  I think the worst to suffer was the lobelia and sunflowers...
I think the lobelia has literally had it and will probably be going on the
compost heap tomorrow, but I dont want my mini ...
Is a Big Hunk of Steak Worth Almost 2,000 Gallons of Water?11 Aug 2008 05:27 GMT259
V, your food choices are moral choices from this viewpoint also.
Dammit, I'll not enjoy a big chunk of dead cow nearly as often and
likely not enjoy it nearly as much.  Hell, after reading Pollan and all
the related stuff, and given that grass-fed is so damned
Identify This Weed?11 Aug 2008 03:47 GMT3
I was wondering if you could help me identify this weed?  It ONLY grows
between my sidewalk and the road - nowhere else in my yard.  During early
spring, the grass between my sidewalk and road is nice and lush...then
around June/July my grass gets replaced by these vine looking ...
Tomatoes and Uneven Ripening11 Aug 2008 02:16 GMT2
We have about 30 tomato plants. A mix of mostly heritage with some Ultra
Girl II hybrids. We've been raising tomatoes for 20 years but this year we
have 2 problems.
1 - All of the heritage tomatoes are ripening VERY unevenly. To the point
chillies10 Aug 2008 21:47 GMT7
I've not grown chillies before, but now have 3 plants, about 18 inches
high, grown from seeds from a bought chilli.
I have had them on my kitchen window ledge, but the flowers keep
dropping off. I don't think I've under or over watered.

The flower close up. The pink streaks on the petals and sepals are caused by
a reflection.
Adenium obesum (Desert Rose) propagation10 Aug 2008 20:08 GMT1
I have a Desert Rose and would like to propagate it for a friend.  I
am trying to root a stem cutting in a clay pot filled with moist
gravel with morning sun, 10 weeks, no roots yet but still looks
healthy.   Are seeds the only option for a desert rose?

Bleeding heart plants die back mid-summer and leave a "hole" in the
borders in which they grow at this time of year.
Does anyone have any suggestions of perennials/small shrubs that could
occupy this space once they have died back, but would not be swamped
Brassia Rex Sakata10 Aug 2008 19:40 GMT4
Where can I find info on this orchid? Managed to pick this up for $5.00 but
don't have a clue how to look after it. Just could not walk by it for this
price. Now I am in a quandry as how to mother it.....help.help.help.
Thanks
