| Okra question | 20 Jul 2008 05:37 GMT | 9 |
Due to a long cold wet spring and early summer (no global warming here!), I started my okra in 4 inch deep pots, and I'm just now ready to put them out. I understand okra does not transplant well. I can transplant them from the pots with the entire dirt ball intact and undamaged, ...

| My intro and some questions | 20 Jul 2008 04:11 GMT | 4 |
I am new to this group, and a novice at gardening. I live on Long Island, NY (not sure of what "zone" that is). Anyway, my question is about the Butterfly Bush(buddleia). I bought a small one at my local nursery as a colorful addition to my back yard.

I keep seeing in catalogues reassurances that David Austin roses are tough plants and don't require pampering. But I remain sceptical about how successful a plant bred in England can be in, oh just for example, a city built on the edge of the

| Just one cat aka Rodent populations | 19 Jul 2008 20:35 GMT | 2 |
Here we have more rodents about then anytime in living here 50 years. I¹ve dispatched about 80 rats in the last 2 months. I¹ve installed baffles to keep them off my sunflower feeders yet the increase is scary. Ever see 10 rats in a feeding frenzy on a bird feeder at 3 am ?

| 3 year old Grass Seeds | 19 Jul 2008 19:23 GMT | 3 |
I bought some grass seeds 3 years ago for a major re-grading and re-seeding project I was doing at the time. The seeds, which were a local blend mixed to suit my immediate area and climate, worked very well, giving me thick growth and matching my existing lawn.

| Slugs V Snails | 19 Jul 2008 18:17 GMT | 18 |
During the 47 years I have lived in this property I have noticed that over the years the pest population has changed from being almost entirely slugs, to become almost entirely snails! There are only a few slugs appear in my garden after a humid night, but

| rose question.... | 19 Jul 2008 16:56 GMT | 3 |
I have one young rose bush (of many) that is perfectly healthy (no weevil holes in buds, leaves dark green and healthy). However, the big fat buds are not opening -- gorgeous blooms last year! I have picked one and carefully opened the petals, all healthy. I have picked one and ...

The flower bud has been eaten while still nestling in its protective leaves. Might another grow or should I just lift and dump? Mary
