romanescu question25 Jun 2008 10:34 GMT2
How tall do 'Romaescu' grow?
The reason I ask as that the ones I have planted out have grown as tall as
my purple sprouting broccolli plants - about 1 foot.  I can't see how the
great heavy heads are going to be supported if they carry on growing at
Hedging Plant ID Please25 Jun 2008 10:27 GMT2
Sorry no pics but I was out walking last night and saw a plant used in
hedging that was rather appealing.
The hedge was neatly clipped to about 4' high and 2' wide.
The foliage looked like miniature holly leaves approx 10mm long x 5mm wide
Suffolk Punch Wiring25 Jun 2008 08:54 GMT4
I have an old Suffolk Punch lawn mower with an Engine code 75 G14 typ
14A. This does not start at the moment, and it looks like someone ha
'had' a go at the electrics before I got given it this week.
Do any of you have the wiring diagram for one of these? Or know where
Very productive day in the garden25 Jun 2008 06:53 GMT7
I limbed up my hemlock. I (with some help from DS, age 15) took down a pine
that really needed to go and DD ( 9) helped take down two oak branches that
were shading the bed. Lots more light getting in and a spot for bright shade
lovers.

Overhead or underhand25 Jun 2008 06:38 GMT34
I want to improve my garden.  I need to protect it from the brutal winds we
have here sometimes, and I would like to shade a portion of it.  I am going
to build a framework similar to those at plant nurseries.  I would also like
to make raised beds to make it easier to access ...

Wrinkled Stems on Blc. Wanda's Fire24 Jun 2008 23:46 GMT2
Just won a Brassolaeliocattleya and I noticed the stems are wrinkled. Is
this because of lack of water? It was in need of repotting, so I did.
Any ideas or will the repotting do the trick? It was in bad need of a repot.
Thanks, Chuck.
Lumber for raised beds24 Jun 2008 21:19 GMT8
I want to make some raised beds for gardening.  I'm going to use pipe
supports, which I have a lot of.  I want to make 4' x 12' x 12" deep or so
beds.  What would be a good lumber for this?  I want something that is going
to last for a while, although I know nothing lasts forever ...
New 'kid' on the block24 Jun 2008 19:35 GMT4
This is my first message to this Newsgroup. Apart from my lifelong love of
gardening, I am also very keen on photography, plants included. As I only
have a smallish garden with an equally smallish pond,  I don't grow any
vegetables concentrating on orchids, cacti and a few ...
Which is better?  (mosquitoes)24 Jun 2008 16:50 GMT12
Which is better, getting rid of *all* the standing water?  Or leaving
one bucket full of stagnant water under a tree (to lure them to one
place) and putting one of those "mosquito dunks" in it?
I think I'm gonna try the latter this year.
