Tell me more about nipping out broad bean tips03 Jun 2008 16:21 GMT19
I've never grown broad beans before but mine, sown in March I think, are now
about 8" high with lots of flowers.
There's no sign of blackfly on them but I'm sure I've heard something about
nipping out the tips being a preventative.
Invite these social climbers into your garden03 Jun 2008 16:17 GMT1
If you have an ugly fence or a bare expanse of wall, a lush, green
vine might be the answer you’re looking for.
The word “vine” once referred only to grape plants, but now in
American English usage, vine can include many varieties of climbing

Cataloupe Question03 Jun 2008 14:07 GMT1
I planted two cataloupes (from transplant) this year.  One has stalled in
growth and still quite green (must not have composted that side of the
garden well enough) and the other is sending out runners and has many
blossoms.  Yippie for me.  My question comes in on determining ...
Harvesting garlic03 Jun 2008 12:56 GMT7
I plant garlic cloves between roses to deter pests.
When the tops fall over, I harvest the garlic.
They are always very small, measuring perhaps
1-1/2 to 2" at the widest.
Anti Slug and Snail Experiment03 Jun 2008 12:19 GMT13
Following postings about slugs and snails and copper wire etc., I am
performing some experiments which gardeners, (that does not include me, I am
a non gardener, 'her outdoors' is the gardener) might like to follow.

Time to transplant D. Formosa03 Jun 2008 03:35 GMT2
Long time no see!  We recently moved into a new house and I have a
very large dicentra formosa in a side garden that gets full sun all
day, and is in very poor soil.  It bloomed beautifully in spring and
continues to bloom now, and the foliage is lovely.  However, I read
Organic Hay Production in the North?03 Jun 2008 00:17 GMT4
Hey Folks:
I'm trying to find anything I can about growing grass hay with organic
methods in the far north. If any of you stumble across something, please
holler. Our fertilizer prices went from $400/ton to $1060/ton in one
Fox during the day?03 Jun 2008 00:07 GMT20
A bit OTT I know - but I've never seen the fox during the day. It's
just done a daring daylight raid taking all the bread that was on the
floor before legging it.
Is it very abnormal to see them during the day?
Ordering Sphagnum Peat Moss Online02 Jun 2008 23:24 GMT4
Hi, I've been searching on Froogle/Google & Ebay for some sphagnum peat moss
to pot up my venus fly traps but I'm struggling to find any that can be
ordered online. There is an 80 litre bag of it on ebay but it is a pick up
only auction. I only need about the volume of a standard ...
Bit OT - wonderful botanic artist02 Jun 2008 23:22 GMT3
http://www.rosiesanders.com/
She lives locally and has 'borrowed' some of our plants.  Her latest London
exhibition has our Ipomoea indica in it but aside from that, her pictures
are stunning and they're huge.  Anyone with a love of botanical art and a
tree in fron lawn02 Jun 2008 22:51 GMT1
Hi, everyone,
I live in Dublin, California and am looking for a tree to plant in our
front lawn to shade our front window. We like something evergreen and
OK to a lot of water because it is in the lawn. We do not like white
