Successful transplants - I hope!09 Jun 2008 08:05 GMT2
Having had major failure with tomato seeds sent by my Canadian friend
(first time it has happened), I had to crawl to a nursery and buy a
"Celebrity" tomato plant. Not sure if I ever grew them before.
But the main job last evening was transplanting the healthy, beautiful
Compost Pest09 Jun 2008 07:30 GMT2
During the past few days some bedding plants, which were still in
shallow seed trays in the greenhouse, suddenly withered and died.  On
inspection of their roots I found a white maggot type creature in the
compost.  In another tray I found many chestnut brown cocoons/pupa

I have some red potatoes in the pantry with long sprouts on them, and
unplanted space in the garden where the hail killed everything.  (BTW,

Is 10-10-10 appropriate fertiliser for tomatoes08 Jun 2008 21:29 GMT27
I was a little turned off by the prices of fertilisers sold for
gardens (at home depot), but I have a bag of 10-10-10 fertilizer for
lawns, the sort that does not have any herbicides (ie, not a weed and
feed type, just feed).
ginormous jobbie in garden08 Jun 2008 20:02 GMT16
Never had a cat, so I've no idea what an average cat poo looks like,
but I spose that the humongous jobbie in the garden this morning must
have come from a large domestic cat.
the neighbours either side are much too elderly to climb the garden

Rocket and beetroot failure08 Jun 2008 19:09 GMT5
I have re-sown twice two rows of rocket and beetroot, once around mid
March (I put down nothing happening to cold weather) and again in late
April/early May.  Not a dicky bird of either germinated.
Now, I have sown rocket before and have never had this problem.
Source of Mushroom Compost/Manure - Hull Area08 Jun 2008 16:49 GMT3
Just discovered that a previous source of spent mushroom compost has closed
down.

have survived and thrived.
Please help if you can recognise these plants 1/308 Jun 2008 13:00 GMT6

I know you guys out there that have been growing orchids for years won't be
too excited but yours truly saved a dendrobium from a store that was going
to trash it. I got it for free, and when I got it home replanted it and now
I see new growth starting to happen. (Doing the ...
