| Replacing dead plants | 01 Jun 2006 00:05 GMT | 21 |
Just a bit of mild curiosity and a small personal survey. ;-) What does the panel think is a reasonable time in which to take back a dead plant and expect a replacement? Some nurseries have definite policies on this, I know but I'd like to have an idea of customers' reactions ...

| Mums | 31 May 2006 22:52 GMT | 3 |
In 10 years of trying, we have yet to have a mum survive the Winter here in Northern Illinois. My mom had mums for years with no winter die-off but that was many years ago. I get the feeling that someone is cheating on the old family recipe when

| undeveloped radish roots | 31 May 2006 22:31 GMT | 1 |
Some of my radishes (scarlet globe) do just fine, but many develop lots of large leaves without the root ever swelling into a radish. I've tended to leave these, thinking the root would eventually develop, but most don't seem to. So I eventually pull them up and compost them. ...

| what veg to plant at this late stage ? | 31 May 2006 22:08 GMT | 6 |
I planted a row of radishes fairly early on, all have now grown to full size. I have eaten some, but others have started to rot - they are brown/black inside and some have had crawly things in them ! I presume I have left in the ground too long.

| Agave Americana | 31 May 2006 20:59 GMT | 6 |
A very long story but one of these things was dumped on me a few weeks ago. Probably in the region of 250kg in a fluted plastic terra cotta pot (me in snob mood). It has been planted with much pain and grief and I *shall* make it

| Mower stalls on blade engage | 31 May 2006 18:53 GMT | 8 |
I just bought a relatively new (1 or 2 years old) Honda HRA-214 lawnmower, used. It starts on the first pull, no problem, but when I push down the lever that engages the blade, it stalls out. Any advice on what may be happening here would be greatly appreciated. Gas is fine,

| Cleavers | 31 May 2006 13:07 GMT | 15 |
In our previous home in North Cheshire, we never ever saw this weed. Now living in South Cheshire and most of our flower beds (and the compost heap) seem to be overrun with cleavers. Is there any way of eradicating them completely - they seem to have virtually no root yet despite ...
