or production of seed? or a combination of those factors?
The reason i am asking is i am looking to start to breed varieties of
Mystery lawn mower..30 Apr 2006 21:38 GMT3
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to identify a lawn mower I was
given.. The motor was shot so I had our local lawn mower repair guy rebuild
it. He didn't know what the mower was but identified the motor as a 1963
Briggs & Stratton (around 5 horse).
Runner Beans and Rat Bait30 Apr 2006 21:28 GMT1
Last October as a last resort I placed some rat pellets (difenacoum)
approximately 125gms in total down by the side of my garage. This area is
always used for Summer flowers.
Recently a relative who didn't know what I had done has erected Runner bean
runner bean tubers!30 Apr 2006 20:55 GMT2
Have just discovered dahlia-like tubers on last season's runner bean roots.
I know they produce nitrogen nodules though am not exactly sure what form
they take and have certainly never seen them so big.
If I plant them again will they do anything? (tricks? sing a song?, produce
leggy seedlings30 Apr 2006 20:33 GMT3
Some of you may remember that I started some chilli seeds in the airing
cupboard, and becuase of the lack of light, they were very leggy.
If seedlings start leggy, will they always be leggy ?? ie have large
verticle gaps between branches ?? Or will it just be the stalk below the
Light on Rainy Days30 Apr 2006 20:13 GMT1
After one of the sunniest Aprils ever here in Wisconsin, we are now
slated for a good week of solid rain and overcast. What I wonder is
how much light still comes through that my plants will be able to make
use of? Obviously, it's not golden sunlight, but do enough of the

list of poisonous plants30 Apr 2006 19:56 GMT46
I know that lots of plants are described as "poisonous" when in fact they
just give you a bit of a bad tummy, whilst others can be fatal. I have small
children so am trying to rid the garden of anythign fatal to them but do not
mind the "bad tummy" plants. Does anyone know where I ...
Halesia monticola :-(30 Apr 2006 19:51 GMT4
I planted two pot-grown ones late in 2004.  Last year, they flowered
and produced leaves, and have repeated it this year (so they can't be
TOO unhappy).  One put on 3' of growth, which was all killed by the
mild winter (-10 Celcius, once) - and one did nothing.  I have dug
How do you propagate wild violets?30 Apr 2006 19:32 GMT6
I just love these freckled ones I found yesterday growing in my yard.  I
will go out and see if I can find them again and mark around them so
they don't get mowed.
What do I do to propagate more or can I do it?  Wait for them to make
Pine tree with huge cones30 Apr 2006 19:16 GMT1
Is anyone familiar with enormous pines trees , that produce huge cone
that sit on top of the branch (rather than dangling from ), and loo
like bee hives.   The tree in question produces red berries in winter.
Can't find it in any of the books I have purchased.  I will pos

(Thank god it didn't start out on one of my wine newsgroups...I wouldn't
have dared show my face there ever again!)

I am proposing to erect a small lean-to greenhouse for our garden,
(actually it will be more like a cold frame).
It would be sited under our lounge window and therefore no more that 4
