Paint Fumes and Orchids...06 Jun 2005 19:36 GMT2
I have recently painted my room and the fumes are just barely lingering.  I
have a total of five orchids that call that particular room home and it
occurred to me as I moved them to a seperate room that a relative of mine
recently painted their entire house without moving an ...
Useful tree stumps?06 Jun 2005 18:54 GMT6
I had about a dozen trees taken out a few years ago for a pool area.  Stumps
were ground and planted grass.  I recently had a couple other trees taken
out, but prefer not to have a machine back in that area again.  I have two
stumps that are flush with the ground.
bugs in dense foam around plant base: should I let them be?06 Jun 2005 17:13 GMT2
Hi there, I am a gardening newbie but am trying to take a fairly hands
off organic approach.
A lot of the plants in my vegetable bed have masses of soft, wet foam
around their bases full of squat insects that are grey-brown with a red
Siting a Shed - Building Regs06 Jun 2005 16:23 GMT18
I want to put a shed in the garden. Just a small one, probably about
6' by 8'. As far as I can make out such a structure would be exempt
from building control under schedule 2 - Exempt building and work. It
would appear to come under class VI - small detached buildings. The
Pond Spoil06 Jun 2005 16:12 GMT4
I've now excavated my pond and I am now left with a puzzle.  Th
subsoil is almost solid clay and although I kept some of the topsoi
asside I am left with a mound which is very steep with large lumps o
clay.  What can be planted on a mound like this.  I assume the lump
moving/transporting house plants06 Jun 2005 15:02 GMT12
I apologize if this is not the group to ask this question.  If there's a
better group, please let me know.
I'll be moving from Nebraska to California (3 days and nights on the road)
temporarily (9 months), and would like to take my house plants with me, but

New lawn and dog ?06 Jun 2005 14:05 GMT10
I had some new turf laid a few weeks ago and since then, I have had the
hoseppe on it for about 20 mins per day. The dog has also watered it
frequently. Now I have patches which are browny yellow and not growing as
welll as it might.

Coal Soot06 Jun 2005 13:24 GMT13
We have just had our chimney swept (real coal fire, not smokeless fuel) and
the sweep has left us a bag of soot.
Is there any way this can be used on the garden?

Waste water for the garden06 Jun 2005 12:41 GMT13
Summer is almost on us (though it looks as though a frost is possible on
Monday) and if the forecasters are correct then it will be long and hot.
So what waste water is or is not acceptable to the garden?  Will
soap, detergent, washing powder biological/non-biological, bath ...
Something stole the flower heads on some sunflowers06 Jun 2005 12:02 GMT5
I can't imagine where the flower heads went. There's no trail left
on the ground, the petals had fallen off so they weren't that pretty.
There were no seeds on it... in fact it was hit taken over by aphids
and the leaf stems kinda turned brown and started dying. What
Oak Leaf Hydrangea06 Jun 2005 12:00 GMT4
Are these plants finiky?  I learned the hard way that they resent
transplanting.  But I would like to have some, and I want to know if the
mature plants are as difficult to care for as the babies?

Phal. Bellina....question06 Jun 2005 11:18 GMT10
Hello everyone, I've had a phal bellina for a few months now, I put
under lights a few months back and I've seen it go from droopy and slow
to healthy, and even growing a new leaf.
The leaves used to be a transparent color, and they just bounced back
