Back Prime Fiber Cement Siding?24 Jul 2008 01:36 GMT4
I'm receiving conflicting 'information' on painting fiber cement
siding.
I have info from tech rep & web site each of two manufacturers.
The question is whether or not to back prime fiber cement siding.
general question about working with a remodeling company23 Jul 2008 17:18 GMT4
I live in southern California and I'm about to have an aluminum patio
cover installed by a remodeling company. This is the second bid I've
entertained and I went with this company because everything about it
looked good on paper. Does the following sound like business as usual

Curiosity question to Contractors (Residential mostly but also Commercial included)22 Jul 2008 17:48 GMT5
For those of you that are contractors, and have been a while, I'm curious
about something.  Based upon your years of experience (residential mostly
but commercial could apply also) what is the most predictable aggravation
you face on projects?
Want to become a residential home builder22 Jul 2008 05:18 GMT12
I'm a contractor looking to become a small volume home builder in NY.
I have a lot of good subcontractors, family looking to invest, a
mortgage broker in the family, a bachelor's degree in accounting, and
a willingness to educate myself as much as necessary.  This is
maximum steel span21 Jul 2008 17:11 GMT4
I have built a deck on an existing roof and it's too noisy below because
the roof is too bouncy.  I want to run a span of steel over the roof
without touching it and put my deck on the steel span.  The steel will
span 28' and support only itself and the floorboards with max 4 people ...
Another brick path laying question19 Jul 2008 17:33 GMT2
So I've sorted out what gravel/road base/whatever I'm going to use.
I've driven some stakes and built a frame out of pressure treated
2x4s. I "leveled" them by laying a board across my trench, resting on
the ground on either side. That turns out not to be particularly
How are Aluminum Seamless gutters attached?18 Jul 2008 19:55 GMT3
How are new Aluminum Seamless gutters attached?
Does the nail go vertically through the top piece of the gutter that sits
under the paper and shingles?  Or does the nail go horizontally through the
inside gutter into the rafter.  Or can they attach either way?
Road base for brick and sand walkway?18 Jul 2008 18:15 GMT11
I'm laying a brick path more or less per the instructions here:
 http://www.cornerhardware.com/howto/ht023.html
Those instructions call for "engineered road base" to be put under the
sand. I went to a big masonry supply store today and bought six sacks
Replacing Electrical Weatherhead ?18 Jul 2008 14:11 GMT3
I am a homeowner in Burlingame California

rusty.  Also the ground wire is attached through an insulator into my roof.
I would like to change out the weatherhead.
Nailed vs. floated floors18 Jul 2008 13:34 GMT2
I am trying to decide whether I should install a floated bamboo floor or
nailed bamboo floor in my house.  I understand that the floated floor is
easier to install but more expensive because of extra materials.  The reason
for considering a floated floor is the mother-in-law ...

Ventilation Problem – Attic16 Jul 2008 22:44 GMT11
Picture two roofs – a major and minor – with the minor 1/3 the size of
the major T-boning into the major at the middle on one side only. The
space between the roof and ceiling of the minor is about 200 cubic
yards; too small to move air with a gable fan according to several
Sound proofing new residential15 Jul 2008 14:02 GMT8
I am about to build a new home. Some sort of sound proofing would be
nice on the interior walls.  Does anyone know of any new products or
techniques that could be used at reasonable cost.
CA Contractors State Lic Board Problem - Legal advice???11 Jul 2008 05:54 GMT13
A friend is under a citation from our State Lic Board here in California. He
had a contract with a homeowner that provided for progress payments, she
didn't make them, so he abandoned the job. It is all in his contract, and
agreed to by both parties. Now the license board is ...
