Are the gaps in decking boards (PT or composite) *REALLY* necessary?27 Apr 2008 01:18 GMT13
I've spoken to a number of people who have put composite decks in and they
followed the manufacturers suggestions carefully and ended up with boards
that just "seem" too far apart.  A friend of mine has these large gaps
around his posts that I'm not particularly fond of.

Before I go and hire an architect, get building permit, etc. I would like to
get a ballpark on what this might look like...
I have a bearing wall (2x4 studs) which is 13 ft. long in my living room
which I am thinking of tearing out and replacing with a beam. (2 story

DIY Jackhammers23 Apr 2008 18:57 GMT25
A friend needs about 60 feet of a city sidewalk removed. I suggested he rent
a jackhammer and I'd help. We're both fit and husky. I plan to handle the
hammer. Any tricks or techniques I should know about before I start?

plywood deflection rating23 Apr 2008 00:15 GMT19
I'm building a wall of storage shelving for my 45 record collection (appx.
20,000). The records are stored 200/box and each box is 16x8x9, weighing
15lbs. Will 3/4" plywood shelving 4 feet long support this load without
deflecting, each shelve will be loaded to 75lbs with ...

Last time I posted we were tearing out walls to create an open kitchen/
living area. Yesterday we tore out the exterior wall in the bathroom
to add a 48" shower...the original bathroom was only 5x8 now 12x12,
much nicer!
Buying a House or a Home?19 Apr 2008 15:03 GMT1
A house is just that, a house, until someone lives in it. That's when
it becomes a Home. There's a big difference. At our house, we always
say our home is "well lived in." And, with a family of six, four of
them being between the ages of 9 and 15, this house has no choice! Our

Hello, I will build a concrete block wall 4 blocks high for a garage.  Three
of the courses will be below grade.  I want to make this wall as strong as
practically possible. (I could not use a poured wall because of access
problems).  I live in a freeze/thaw area. I want to use ...

Table saw recommendations please16 Apr 2008 05:26 GMT4
I don't need cabinet makers grade.  I just want one that is a 10" and has a
fence that doesn't have to be dicked with every dam time to keep it square.
I have this POS rockwell I paid WAY too much for at an auction, and it just
has to go.  The fence is not worth the powder and ...
