Brief description: Two story house. Upstairs bedroom has a deck (9*9). Below that is the (bigger) first story deck. I wanted to create a screened in area on my lower deck by framing walls up to the upper deck's rim joists.

My upstairs bedroom has a deck that we do not use because of the elements and the bugs. I would like to make this space more usable by covering it with a roof and screening in the walls. The house is a salt-box style house with no gable end lookouts, just frieze board.

I have an installation guide for a tankless hot water heater. It says to put a check valve between the water heater and water shutoff valve. Why? I know what the valve does since I have one, but am don't see the point. Any help would be appreciated.
