I am contemplating building an 8' gazebo and was wondering: 1)Are footings really necessary? Wouldn't some PT 4x4s semiburied and hammered in w/ rebar suffice? I am in SE Penna. 2)I would like to use cedar but the offerings at HD and Lowes are minimal.

I'm installing a new t&g fir floor, the floor is around two and half feet above an open space. There was some old insulation below that I have removed. I plan to install unfaced insulation and a half inch plywood sheathing to the bottom of the joists to keep the critters

I'm told that here in NH I can expect to pay approx $85-$100 per hour for general excavation work which should include all machine transportation and operational costs (one backhoe). Does this sound right to anyone? I want to agree on a fair price with an excavator. I
