DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly jerking flat metal
bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings
your beer across the room, splattering it against that freshly-stained
heirloom piece you were drying.
Is this type of fan appropriate under roof vents in ceiling?29 Jun 2007 21:09 GMT12
I am going to install a whole house fan to exhaust hot air out of the rooms
on the top floor , and while I'm at it I'm thinking of installing fan(s),
most likely one (1). in the roof itself to exhaust the air right out from
over the ceiling of those rooms.  Get it out of the rooms, ...

I am getting ready to shingle my roof on a new build.  Instead of
using felt, what material have you used that you've really liked as an
underlayment?
Innovative materials - school project29 Jun 2007 01:23 GMT17
Hi! My name is Pawel, I have to do this project for my "Construction
Materials and Methods" class. I would like to write about some kind of
material, which is really innovative for industry. Something, which is
maybe not that popular nowadays, but has a chance to be in common use
Gazebo: Footings & Wood28 Jun 2007 23:50 GMT4
I am contemplating building an 8' gazebo and was wondering:
1)Are footings really necessary? Wouldn't some PT 4x4s semiburied and
hammered in w/ rebar suffice? I am in SE Penna.
2)I would like to use cedar but the offerings at HD and Lowes are minimal.

Exhaust fans and attic ventilation questions28 Jun 2007 16:35 GMT5
Presently, my two bathrooms have exhaust fans venting straight into
the roof attic space. I do not believe that my roof has any
ventilation system at all. I am concerned that this may promote
unhealthy air which filters down into the living areas below. Are

perfect for us, but the EA says they want all offers in by 11am Monday! We
need a ball-park figure (all in, architect, fees etc) for what we would want
to do so we know if we can afford it! it is a 1930s ...

vapor barrier for three season porch25 Jun 2007 22:04 GMT3
I'm installing a new t&g fir floor, the floor is around two and half
feet above an open space. There was some old insulation below that I
have removed. I plan to install unfaced insulation and a half inch
plywood sheathing to the bottom of the joists to keep the critters
Excavation costs25 Jun 2007 13:18 GMT3
I'm told that here in NH I can expect to pay approx $85-$100 per hour
for general excavation work which should include all machine
transportation and operational costs (one backhoe). Does this sound
right to anyone? I want to agree on a fair price with an excavator. I
