new home foundation (slab??)01 Jun 2006 00:25 GMT15
I am about to build our new home in Oklahoma and am having a hard time
deciding what type of foundation to use. The home is a late 1800's
period style home - so my original plan was to build with 2' high
poured stemwall and wood joist subfloor. This plan, however, has turned
Block Retaining Wall Cracks Caused by Lull Forklift Driven/Parked Very Near It31 May 2006 00:29 GMT5
We have a 40+ year old rental home in south central New Mexico. One
morning, I noticed a large Lull forklift illegally parked adjacent to
our North block retaining wall on the sidewalk adjacent to the wall
about 2 feet from the wall. I also noticed that opposite to where each
Hosts?  Any cheap rigs?30 May 2006 18:34 GMT7
I'm going to be building a house and was wondering if anyone is aware of any low cost hoists or some sort of rig like that for getting materials up to a second story easily.  This might be as simple as some kind of a wench with motor and rigging.  It does have to support much ...

googling "summer toilet leaking caulking"30 May 2006 02:30 GMT1
Doing a search of "summer toilet leaking caulking" gives a lot to look
through.  The first thing I notice with this hit is check to see if flapper
is leaking by adding food coloring and checking the bowl.  I think I could
probably get a better idea coming here first, and save ...
Curvco Steel Buildings29 May 2006 13:25 GMT2
Well, I paid $3,800 for the fancy foundation I wasn't informed I
needed.  I got the sides up and the bolt holes don't line up.  The side
panels flatten out.  The arch pieces are the same size so they slot
into each other.  It is like trying to put two boxes the same size
? re: neighbours' planned renovation29 May 2006 03:17 GMT11
First, I apologize if this is completely off topic for this group (and
for its length, but this is going to make me sick). If there's a
better group to ask, please let me know.

Tape/seal all visquene joints (crawl space vapor barrier)?28 May 2006 15:43 GMT4
This new house I bought has 8 mil black visquene down over a bed of chat
gravel (limestone type).  The coverage is pretty good, and they used metal
U-spikes to join the visquene pieces where they meet at seams, etc.  Would
it be worth the time to seal the seams better with tape ...
assembling a four peice concrete fountain27 May 2006 23:56 GMT1
I have a four piece concrete fountain and I am not sure how to assemble it.
The maker said just use the putty type tape supplied.  I cannot see how this
will help me level each bowl.
If any one knows a web site with any details please let me know

Question on framing floor opening in remodel27 May 2006 17:05 GMT9
In a remodel situation, I'm framing a floor opening in which a new
double trimmer joist will be only 7/8" away from an existing tail
joist.  This makes supporting the tail joist from the new header
difficult.  Would it be reasonable to use a 7/8" thick filler board
Glue for heavy laminations?27 May 2006 14:22 GMT8
Hey Group,
I'm looking for a source and suggestions on an adhesive with which to make
laminated beams out of 2x6 and 2x8 lumber. Epoxy will creep at about 140
degrees. I do not expect my temps to reach that high but may see 120 degrees
how to get subcontract construction work27 May 2006 03:02 GMT14
I have 12 years experience in placing and installing reinforcement into
concrete foundations in residential homes, and I'm looking to get into

a lot of these general contractors with whom I'm attempting to get ...
