Labeler30 Sep 2005 23:02 GMT3
I would like to purchase a labeler to label receptical cover plates,
wires, pipes, bins, etc.  I purchased a labeler that uses a hard
plastic "tape"; the characters a pressed into the tape which becomes
white in the areas that where pressed.  The labels look fine, but they
Concrete Slab Question29 Sep 2005 01:44 GMT5
This is on a farm; no inspections of any type. I have a 8'x8'x6" slab
that I had a feed bin on (now gone). The leg anchors (4) of the bin
were 6 feet on a side. In other words, one foot in from each edge of
the slab. Where the anchor bolts for the legs are there is an 8" pier

Smoke alarms28 Sep 2005 15:30 GMT4
forgive me if this OT, but you guys have helped me a lot before and I
figured one of you would have run into this...
One of our smoke detectors has developed the unnerving habit of going off
(only in the dead of night OF COURSE!) when there is no smoke, no flame, no
Changing a thin coat plaster finish28 Sep 2005 01:43 GMT1
I'm remodelling a house that is just 11 years old.  It has thin coat plaster
(over drywall) in several different finishes and I want to have one uniform
finish throughout.  Most of the thin coat has sand in it, some is knocked
down, some not, and some is a random swirl finish.  The ...
Tolerances27 Sep 2005 21:26 GMT11
I am currently building a new home, well, the contractor is doing the
building. What are the expected tolerances for room dimensions? The
reason I am asking we were about to purchase a king bed room set. Total
length of the set was 142 inches. The particular wall in question was
simple water level indicator?27 Sep 2005 19:20 GMT10
I have a rain catchment system on my cabin with underground storage tanks.
What is a simple, inexpensive water level indicator I can use?  I am aware
of the expensive, electronic wireless options, but would rather not use
them.
basement foundation27 Sep 2005 17:17 GMT1
Hello to group:
Well, I made a big mistake.  I hired a contractor to dig out the
basement floor 18", install a perimeter drain, put down a compacted
stone bed and water barrier, then pour a new cement floor.
OK; your house got badly flooded...27 Sep 2005 12:34 GMT23
... and Fema is reneging on the deal.
Where do you start?
You have the potential to claim $40,000 from a $115,000 job. But that's
a job that you'd have to call in the builders for.
What is it with this granite counter top fad?  Is it a sign of total decadence and the decline and fall of America?26 Sep 2005 23:38 GMT152
everywhere I go, all the Martha Stewart clones are gabbing about their
new granite counter tops, or their soon-to-be installed granite counter
tops.  WUWT?  How does such an inane fad get started?  What companies
should I have invested in 12 months ago who are now obscenely ...
Strip nail galvanizing question26 Sep 2005 22:27 GMT5
I recently bought a Hitachi NR83A2 full head framing nailer.
Yesterday I bought some strip nails made by Senco that say on
the box "hot dipped galvanized". Upon opening the box, the nails
look very bright and do not have that irregular, matte,
Shingling out of a valley26 Sep 2005 21:19 GMT4
I ran across this article
(http://www.roofer911.com/roofing_valleys.htm) that describes some ways
to shingle a valley and then work your way out from the valley.
This approach looks good, but I am wondering about the shingle offsets.
1 in 30 or 1 in 40 - drains26 Sep 2005 18:29 GMT3
I have been asked by a building inspector to create a fall of "1 in 40" in
my bathroom to act as a shower area (1200 x 1200).  I can make it slightly
more steeper if I wanted.  Can anyone tell me what this means 1 in 40 and
what would be a little more steeper?
New road put in next to us- water issues26 Sep 2005 16:29 GMT10
Recently the builder actually built the road up and poured it. We are
now a corner lot.  They really did a number here on us.  They built it
up very high (about 3.5' higher than my land) and my back and side
yard, that runs adjacent to the road, now is very low and sunk in. the
stove pipe opening insulation26 Sep 2005 04:10 GMT5
Your expert opinion is invited:
My neighbour is asking if he can put fiberglass around newly-installed
insulated chimney as it penetrates the ceiling (attic) insulation.
The manufacturer specifies there be kept a 2" clearance from combustibles.
