Can anybody help please?
I'm widening a concrete driveway by 4ft to make car parking easier and would
be grateful for some tips (a neighbour did the same and ended up with an
embarrassing amount of excess ready mixed concrete, with hindsight he'd have

block or stick built30 Nov 2003 20:48 GMT2
I am thinking about having a building built 20 x40 for a dog kennel
business.  All the kennels I've seen have been block const. I realize the
block will make cleaning easier, but which form of const. is the least
expensive.

Upgrading electrical outlets29 Nov 2003 21:53 GMT6
I live in a home constructed in the 50s that has ungrounded outlets that I
would like to upgrade.  I was preparing to run new three conductor wires to
each outlet, but was told by a local contractor that instead I can run just
a grounding wire to each and back to the box.  That ...

rain catchment system for drainking and other uses.  I haven't had any luck

garage apron29 Nov 2003 12:56 GMT2
I'm getting ready to pour a garage floor and am wondering whether a
small apron should be poured along with the floor or, if I pour a big
apron/driveway later, where to put a joint between the two.
Some details.  The garage is about 24x24, but I'm also pouring another
Metal framing connectors - on top of sheathing okay?29 Nov 2003 04:12 GMT4
Hi.  A question has come up and I can't get an answer from Simpson Stongtie
until Monday.  Does anyone know if there is a problem with using metal framing
connectors on top of the plywood sheathing?  I haven't found an answer on the
Simpson web site - just one reference showing a ...

The new house is nearing completion and we will be moving and selling
the two-story, "high-ranch" type, tract home that we have been in for
35 years.  The house has a L-Shaped Living/Dining Room combination.
Soon after we moved in a crack traced from the corner of the "L"

Space for shims?28 Nov 2003 05:39 GMT3
I'm installing a set of attic stairs, and the procedure calls for
framing the hole slightly oversized, and then using shims to hold the
frame of the stairs in place before screwing the frame to the framing.
The frame of the stairs is quite deep, on the order of 9 inches.
Sealing masking tape edges28 Nov 2003 05:25 GMT2
I have a masking tape question for you, or perhaps it is a shellac question....
I need to carefully tape off a kitchen ceiling to paint it, without getting any
paint on the walls.  Of course, I will be using a fresh quality roll of masking
tape, from a sealed package to as to not ...
Curious who is this Lyle...27 Nov 2003 21:52 GMT1
There are a few postings that seemed to have been quashed by Lyle, yet
he has his website address phone number and all.  I don't get it I
really was interested in junk commercials just for additional info on
new and different things out on the markets.
