Cleaning Wood Cabinets?30 Jun 2006 12:34 GMT1
My kitchen cabinets are made of dark pine. I have used a mixture of 1/2
mineral spirits, and 1/2 linseed oil to clean and polish them.
This works fine, except for the smell. I have to have doors and windows
open for ventilation.
Cleaning Mattress and Couch28 Jun 2006 16:10 GMT1
My dog has peed on both of them. She's a little dog... but I don't
smell it until you lay on it and the smell waifs up so I guess I didn't
notice when she did it?
Any suggestions for getting rid of pee smells and stains? Anyone know
Darkening vinyl miniblinds28 Jun 2006 15:34 GMT3
I am light sensitive, so wake up too early, because I hung white
mini-blinds.  Sleep masks are uncomfortable.
Am considering the below options, weighing aesthetics and finances.
1.  Put up curtain rod and hang dark curtains.
Symbols25 Jun 2006 12:53 GMT6
Last evening I had the pleasure of going to one of 'our' pub quizzes where
know-alls sit discussing possible answers to obscure questions. I had the
unbelievable good fortune of being asked to identify a circle with a red X
on an item of clothing.
down pillows - how to wash?25 Jun 2006 12:48 GMT13
Mom told me I had to take the feathers out of the pillows, put them in a
pillowcase, tie or sew it closed, wash them, then put them into new ticking.
There must be an easier way ... can't I just throw them in the washer on the
gentle cycle, then dry them with a tennis shoe like I ...
Deep stains on wood tables25 Jun 2006 11:33 GMT1
Just got back from long trip, and found that friend who was watering
indoor plants had allowed water to seep onto beautiful wooden (alder)
coffee table, and into inlaid end table (not sure what wood).
Stains are very deep.  Not just water, but have carried into the wood
Cleaning rubber buttons from a remote24 Jun 2006 19:26 GMT11
I recently purchased a used univeral remote control (off ebay) that
unfortunately was in a smoking home. The thing stinks of smoke, and the
buttons themselves (which are made of rubber) are actually stained
yellow (they used to be white) from the smoke. I took the remote apart
Cleaning Vinyl24 Jun 2006 16:08 GMT2
My vinyl floor (new house) has a thin layer of grit in the heavily
trafficed areas making parts of the floor look darker than the rest.  I
can scrape it off with a scraper, but it doesn't seem to come off with
just soap/water/scrubbing and I'm worried that I'm damaging the floors.
Al pot22 Jun 2006 23:28 GMT5
I have an aluminum pot that's been through the dishwasher a few
times and looks like crap because of it. Will the smooth finish come
back if I hand wash it from now on? Is there a way to get the old
finish back?

Suggestions for stain removal on formica top dining table10 Jun 2006 11:11 GMT3
I was given a large white formica /chrome dining room table plus
matching vinyl/chrome chairs.

table plus hubby sat a heavy large cast iron dutch oven on top of table
HELP & ADVICE: new home01 Jun 2006 11:24 GMT10
I just moved into a new flat and the shower unit was really manky

between the sliding doors. I managed to figure how to take the doors
off
