Cleaning old hardwood floors31 Dec 2004 16:09 GMT1
I recently bought a turn-of-the-century house with hardwood floors.
They are weathered in places and I am considering refinishing them very
soon.  In the meantime, what is the best way to clean them? I am not
sure what kind of finish they have/had or how to proceed.  Any help
Question about using a floor buffer30 Dec 2004 01:10 GMT1
There are a few issues I need advice on.  After putting on a brand
new buffer pad, it usally runs into something on the floor which causes
it to scratch circles into the floors surface, is the floor not being
mopped well enough?  My second question has to do with the plastic part

I need to remove some pencil marks on a white tub (made of some kind of

What's wrong with Dawn?26 Dec 2004 03:48 GMT10
In the past, a little went a long way.  My last was Dawn Ultra.  This
time I got Non-Ultra.  I have to use a lot more.  It reminds me of the
time twenty years ago when I bought some cheap dish detergent thinking
it was a bargain.

Costco vs. Sam's paper towels.23 Dec 2004 16:39 GMT12
Their house brand. I go to Sam's and buy Bountys. Costco is too far from home.
My sister brought me a couple Costco double rolls. Not bad. And my neighbor
gave me a roll of Sam's regular. They are about $17 for a case of 30.
Both the Sam's and the Costco's are pleated. And they have ...

There is only one problem. The previous tenants had a cat that seems to have

I used to own a Morphy Richards steam cleaner, it was excellent. It had 4
bar pressure and did the job to my satisfaction.
It has since broken and I am looking for another cleaner but none of them
seem to match the bar rating and only offer either 2 or 3 bar.

How to remove or mitigate toilet bowl scratching.04 Dec 2004 23:52 GMT1
Do not use a wire coat hanger to get at a wad of paper in the toilet
because it could scratch the white toilet bowl a bit. But if, for
example a houseguest did it, what might be tried to mitigate or remove
the scratches down in the toilet bowl below the water line?...
