This has been the most entertaining "I have sinned." saga in a while.  Not
yet of Jimmy Sweigert caliber, but Sanford seems determined to keep
trying. (Someone should suggest Twitter to him as a way to let the public
know details as he remembers them.)  If his day job doesn't work out, ABC
is auditioning for the next season of "The Bachelor"; Sanford seems a
natural talent

In the olden days, a politician would have issued a brief statement
acknowledging that he (usually) had behaved badly, then been admitted to a
treatment facility for an alcohol problem and/or prescription drug
dependence due to a bad back.

I heard about 3rd hand. Seems to me Fox has done that before, but don't
remember who it was.

I could continue, but I think that's enough.

But, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words:

One time event, probably a mistake. Obviously there's no effort to hide his
political party affiliation, as they *repeatedly* refer to him as a
Republican.
