I'll be offline for several days, starting soon.  My computer has been
running the same copy of XP since December of '03, and it has reached
the end of its run.  It's time to wipe the hard drive and start over.
It will take many hours to rebuild the system, particularly since I am
going to do it differently next time.  Those hours are going to be hard
to come by, since this is a busy time of the year.  I am putting in
firewood and dealing with things like family reunions.  I need to
rebuild the shower control valve in at least one bathroom.  After 35
years, the valve guts have given up the ghost.

There is also the risk that I will get tired of dealing with it, and
just go read a book.  The evenings and mornings are too glorious to
spend sitting in front of a keyboard.

At the moment, I plan to start the process Monday evening, after work.
Unless something else crops up.  If you don't hear from me for a while,
I'm fine, the computer is sick.

Larry

:-)  Good luck.  If you don't come back, I'll know you didn't fix the
shower valve first.

LOL

you made that sound like a piece of bubble gum that has lost its flavor.

delete cookies, delete temporary internet files then run defrag.

I ran the same win98se for 10 years and just last April moved up to NT2000
to gain access to a feature I thought to be useful.

if you are running that XP home edition, then I don't blame you,
I'd get rid of that mickey mouse flowery platform too.

bye Larry...

What the hell do you mean "it reached the end of it's run"?

Sounds to me like you don't have a clue about maintaining a computer
HD file system.

Get CCleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner and USE them.

It's time to wipe the hard drive and start over.

Hi,

Larry, you could format the hdd system and put a real OS on it. I
would suggest 'Linux'.  The *buntu Linux distributions would be the
easiest route. Test a Livecd; http://distrowatch.com/ubuntu .

Open source and free to boot, :)
